8 years later.
I was floating in the water. Like all other Sirens my body was now covered in scars most notable was the one over my left eye. Above the eye it was a single scar but after it branched off and turned into two scars, like an upside down 'Y'. My team and I were somewhere in the Atlantic aside from that I had no idea were we where.
"Yo Accalia your turn to keep watch," My teammate Sam said. Sam was a reasonably tall guy but he was also really lean. Groaning I pulled myself off of my back so I was treading water. I glared at Sam in his stupidly good looking and stupid face. Sam was younger than my by three years he had been my apprentice, meaning I trained him. Training normally takes a year and a half and Sam just completed his training.
"Didn't you just start your watch?" I deadpanned. He looked away sheepishly.
"Maybe, but I can't tread water as long as you and the others can," He whined.
"Funny I didn't think that I trained a crybaby and a wimp," I said. He pouted but turned back to his watch anyway. The newer Sirens don't float on their backs to sleep rather they carry small inflatable rafts that they sleep on. I shook my head good naturedly and went back to floating. Soon I had drifted off to a light sleep.
"AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Jolting awake I heard the rest of the team do the same. A large Leviathan had Sam in it's jaws. I felt the world around me stop as my vision turned red, letting out a feral scream I grabbed my triton and dove into the water swimming towards the monster. Once I reach the beast I thrust my triton into it's soft underbelly. I heard the monster scream and I felt it in my bones. Growling I pushed my triton in even further I saw blood fill the water, but then I was through into the air. I opened my eyes just in time to see another Leviathan close it's jaws around my left arm, and I screamed as I felt the flesh and bone ripping from my skin. I looked over at the other Leviathan it was falling and I saw Sam's limp body falling with it. I was falling down when I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around me. Looking over at my former mentor, and friend, leader of the Sirens, Michael his normally carefree face etched with worry.
"Don't worry Accalia I've got you," He said just as I blacked out.
Line Break.
I limped off the ship. My left arm had been replaced with a metal cybernetic. I knew a blade came out of the elbow and wrist, although I had yet to test them. My cybernetic was in a sling till my nerves finished adapting. Sam was in a wheel chair next to me with Michael behind him.
"Are you guys sure you want to come with me back to Embearian? I mean it is a pretty small town and-"
"Accalia my only family my brother Dean is in the Harpies and he won't be coming home for a while," Sam said.
"Yeah and I would rather make sure my former apprentice who can barley walk and my teammate who can't walk get to town okay once we get there I'll head on to the Capital. Okay?" Michael said. I glared at him. The only way you could tell that Michael had been in a fight was by the large cut on his forehead.
"Yeah whatever not like I care anyways," I grumbled as we got in the car. As we rode into the woods it was silent.
"So do you have any siblings?" Sam asked. I noticed Michael straighten up. My family had always been something of a taboo among the team. I frowned and looked at the window.
"I have a sister who is ten years younger than me, a little brother who is 13 years younger then me, and an adoptive brother who is the same age as me. My birth mom died giving birth to me, my dad remarried when I was nine," I said emotionless. I watched the trees pass by and soon I had drifted off in a light sleep.
"Accalia, Accalia,"
"WAKE UP!!!" I jolted awake and as I shot up I punched one of the boys in the face.
"Oww, that hurt," Sam said.
"I told you that you shouldn't lean in to close," Michael chuckled.
"Well why did you wake me up?" I asked.
"We are almost at Embearian," Sam said still rubbing his jaw. I instantly sat up straighter noticing the familiar forest.
"Hey I fell out of that tree over there! And there's the rock I hit my head on! Two different occasions," I said rubbing the spot where I hit my head.
"Wait you were allowed out into the forest?" Sam asked.
"Yup Embearian is a small town the worst things that happen is the occasional bar fight so the guards let us out," I grinned. Once the car entered the city gates I opened the door and ran into town.
"OH YEAH I'M BACK BITCHES!!!!!!!" I screamed totally forgetting my injuries until I remembered, "Ah shit my leg." I whimpered. Waiting for Michael and Sam felt like torture but when they finally joined me it took all of my self control not to bolt and look for Al. So I began rambling about the town and memories I had.
"And I beat the shit out of this asshole who was picking on my sister in that alley, oh and over there is where I threw up after getting the flu and I refused to stay home, and-"
"Accalia."
"Yes?" I said turning toward Michael.
"Calm down," He said.
"Yeah ok will do," I said.
"Ace?" Turning towards the voice my face lit up with joy.
"AL!" I yelled running right into him and he picked me up and spun me around.
"Ace your home!" Al said joylessly. "And your missing your arm. Why am I not surprised."
"Because I'm just that awesome and I'll be home for about-" I trailed off turning towards Michael.
He sighed, "About five to six months."
"Yeah that," I said, "Oh and that's Michael, and the guy in the wheelchair is Sam he'll be staying with us." Al raised an eyebrow at this new information.
"And your father agreed to this?" He asked.
"Oh he has too!" I called and began walking toward our house. I heard Michael sigh, as he struggled to keep up.
"Didn't you hurt your leg?" He called.
"Wait you hurt your leg too?!?!" Al called.
"Are you really surprised?" Sam asked. Once we reached my house, I found myself really wishing I could use my arm right now.
