"He is the sun,
She is the moon,
With nights to light,
And flowers to bloom,
They rule the sky,
In romantic separation,
A glimpse of the other,
Their only motivation.
Without his shine she can not glow,
Without her glow he's all alone,
A perfect love to show loves worth,
a forbidden love across the earth.
She needs him and he needs her,
Sharing the sky,
Turn by Turn,
Whether she is full,
Or he hid by the weather,
Always in sight,
Is their love so bright,
In their small time spent together."
I began to walk back to my seat as the class snapped. Our teacher wanted this to feel like an open mic for poetry so we had to snap instead of clap.
I took my seat beside Mya and couldn't help but notice that she was staring at me, deep in thought. I stared back at her. Her beautiful blue eyes were looking right into my hazel eyes and in that moment it felt like we were the only two in the room. We were interrupted by Mr. Allen calling her name.
"Miss Abrams! Are you ready to present today?" he asked.
"Uh, yeah, sure" she answered nervously, then got up and walked to the front of the room.
"Um, my poem is about my mom," she began. I watched her tuck her hair behind her ear, then lick her lips.
"If roses grow in heaven
Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother's arms
and tell her they're from me.
Tell her that I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away."
The class hesitated, then snapped as she walked back over to her desk. I turned to face her and noticed she was struggling to hold back tears.
"That was beautiful" I whispered.
She turned to face me and smiled, then looked back down at her feet.
A few more people went up and read their poems, then the bell rang. When I arrived at my locker I noticed Mya and her boyfriend fighting at his locker. She looked like she was ready to cry and he just kept yelling at her. I stood there with my locker open, just staring as everyone walked by.
I noticed him push her, knocking her over onto the ground, which caused me to slam my locker and run over to her. I helped her up as Alex and his friends walked away.
