1. You can't be my mate

N A N D I N I

I was enthralled and shook by an alluring scent. My wolf was pouncing with joy, as I breathed it. I tried fluttering my eyes open but the streaks of light fell on my eyes, making it difficult for me to open my eyes. After a moment or few, I battled my lashes completely and opened my eyes only to see a man staring at me.

His looks were giving me goosebumps. To say he was hot would be an understatement... Because he was totally drool worthy. His chocolate brown eyes were captive, his dark pink lips were tempting. He was, in all meaning of the word, perfect.

And according to my wolf he was also My Mate. A sudden fear gripped my heart, making my face scrunch in fear when the word mate struck my head. No no he can't be my mate..actually no one can be my mate..no one. I sat up in a jiffy and I knew my fear was clearly reflected on my face but I couldn't help it. He stretched his hand towards me but I immediately moved backward clutching the duvet close to my face.
"Stay away.. Don't... har..harm me." I tried hard to not stutter but I failed miserably. I could feel my body heating up and I knew my powers were going out of control. I shut my eyes tightly and clutched the duvet trying to suppress my powers.

"I can never harm you. You are my mate." He said calmly.

"You can't be my mate...you can't." I clutched the duvet tighter and this was it, my powers went out of control. The duvet which I was clutching caught fire. "Ishhh.." A soft wail escaped my mouth as the flames came in contact with my skin. My mate immediately threw the duvet out of the window. While I hugged my knees burying my face in it. A lump arose on my throat and tears started flowing down my eyes. I could still feel my body heated up.
"Don't let them in.
Don't let them see.
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know."
I mumbled under my breath with tears flowing down my cheeks. I even didn't see how his reaction was. All I know is blackness took over me and I fell on the soft mattress. I felt a warm touch on my cheek before I completely lost my consciousness.

M A N I K

I turned to look at her after throwing the duvet out of the window and that moment I could feel a lump arise on my throat. Her state was so vulnerable. She was hugging her knees and sobbing, mumbling something under her breath. I took two long steps towards her. As I was about to touch her she fell unconscious all over again, making me even more tensed. I softly brushed those tears from her cheeks but I was surprised to feel her cheeks burning. I touched her other cheek, arms and forehead. Oh my!! Her whole body was burning and I could even see the skin of her hands slightly burnt.

What just happened a while before?

I don't know. All I knew was my mate was suffering. I hurriedly took out the first aid box from the drawer and put ointment on her hand, this will help in healing the wound. The bruises on her shoulders and arms were already healed. You know we werewolves have healing power though it takes certain period of time. I mind linked Cabir, the pack's beta to send the pack doctor while I laid down beside her and took her in my embrace.

I held her close to my chest, feeling her warmth. I could feel her heat slowly getting transmitted in my body. The heat in my body increased bit by bit. At one point it reached to such an unbearable level. I shut my eyes tightly to bear the extreme heat. I am ready to take all her pain. After few minutes or more, I could feel her body heat slowly cooling down. But I could feel my body heated up. Right then I heard a knock on the door.
"Come in."

The pack doctor Maria came in and unwillingly I had to leave my mate. I stood beside the bed as she checked her. My feet were trembling and my whole body was heated up but I stood still...at least I tried.

My wolf was struggling inside while my body was struggling to stand still. My wolf was exhausted and so was I. My vision blurred and my feet gave up, the curtains of darkness soon took over me and I fell down on the floor.

N A N D I N I
One hour. Two hour. Three hour.

I woke up and it felt good. My body was no more heated up. I opened my eyes and looked around. That was when realization struck me. I wasn't at home plus someone was sleeping beside me and that someone was my mate. A sudden fear gripped my heart.
"Nandini stop being afraid of your mate." My wolf, Niti said.

"You know the consequences. I can't accept him."

"You won't reject him." She growled.

"I can't help it..I have to reject him."
