An Hour Later
Stephen

We had completely lost track of the time, and it was way past closing time. We had just been talking about ourselves, she's so easy to talk to. Way easier than Kristen was.

"I should probably get going." I told her. "I really enjoyed talking to you."

"Oh yeah, so did I!" She exclaimed. "Thanks for staying and talking."

"No problem... here, give me your number and I'll call or text you sometime."

"Oh yeah, that'd be cool."

She put her number in my phone, then I walked her to her car. I opened her door for her, closed it, then waved goodbye. Just as I was about to get into my car, I heard her trying to start hers, but it wouldn't start.

"Is everything alright?" I asked after I walked back to the car.

She groaned. "Yeah, this car is just so old..." she hit her head repeatedly on the steering wheel. "Don't worry about me, I'll find someone to come get me."

"Are you crazy? There's no way I'm leaving you here by yourself at night. I'll take you wherever you need to go."

"Oh no, you don't have to do that." She tried to reassure me. "I promise, I'll be fine. I'll call you when I get home to let you know I made it."

"Nope." I said firmly, opening her car door. "I'm not taking no for an answer."

She smiled and reluctantly got out of the car, closing her door shut. "Thank you."

"No problem." We walked to my car and I opened the passenger door for her, then got in on my side. "Where do I need to take you?"

"My mom's house... that's where my son Austin is."

The whole way there she gave me directions, and every once in awhile I'd glance over at her. She was just so beautiful, and she wasn't even wearing makeup. I noticed a few bruises on her arms, but I didn't make any assumptions.

Finally about ten minutes later, we arrived at her mom's house.

"Thank you so much for the ride... My mom can take me home."

I snorted. "Why? I'm already here and I have nothing to do tonight! Besides, I'm sure Austin would love the opportunity to ride in the car with me."

"True true." She flashed a smile. "I'll go get him. Would you like to come inside?"

"Nah that's okay." I replied. "I'll surprise him out here."

"Okay." She smiled again as she got out of the car. "I'll be right back."

A few moments later, we were riding back down the street with her son Austin in the backseat. He was completely starstruck to see me.

"I can't believe I'm in the backseat of Stephen Curry's car!" He kept repeating over and over again.

"Austin, honey!" Shannon chuckled. "You've said it so many times."

"I just can't believe it!" He exclaimed. "I'm gonna tell all my friends at school tomorrow!"

"No you can't do that... sorry honey." She turned to face him. "It has to be our little secret, okay?"

"Okay..." He said sadly.

She turned back to me. "Don't worry, he's good at keeping secrets."

I smiled. "He's adorable, I like him."

We made it to her house, and Austin gave me a high five on his way out.

"Bye Steph! See you later! I'll get to see you again right?"
