Stephen
It's the end of the regular season, and of course, we're going to the playoffs. I met my girlfriend of eleven months, Kristen, in the parking lot after the game, who greeted me with a kiss.
"Oh my goodness babe, you played so well tonight!" She exclaimed. "Forty-one points?! I'm so so proud!"
I wrapped my arm around her waist and kissed her neck.
"I played for you baby girl." I whispered in her ear.
"Mmmm baby, if you wanna go to dinner, I suggest you hold it with that kinda stuff." She giggled and looked into my eyes, her hazel ones sparkling. "I love you so much."
"I love you more baby, and I always will. I'll never ever leave you."
Seems like Kristen and I have the perfect relationship doesn't it? Well I wish we did. Sometimes I love her more than anything and others, she can be so jealous and insecure. Her mood switches so fast sometimes, and it's hard to keep up with her. Thankfully, she's in one of her good moods right now. Despite all of that, I was gonna ask her to marry me tonight. I feel like the time is right, so my family is gonna meet us at dinner.
We held hands and walked the rest of the way to my car, and I opened the door for her to get in, then went to my side.
Just as I set my phone down, my phone buzzed with a text from Christina, my teammate Andre Iguodala's wife. I was about to reach for it when Kristen snatched it.
"Who is Christina and why the hell is she texting you?! I swear Stephen, you don't wanna test me today! I got-"
"If you could calm down, I'll tell you that Christina is Andre's wife." I calmly stated. "Now can I have my phone back?"
She rolled her eyes and looked back at my phone, reading the message. "Andre's wife," she said putting up quotation marks. "wants to know if you wanna go out to eat with her and Andre."
"May I have my phone back?" I repeated.
"What do you want me to say?"
"Can I have my phone back?" I said more forcefully.
"Just tell me what you want me to say and I'll-"
"No Kristen!" I boomed, causing her to jolt in her seat. "I'm tired of you, and all your jealousy and insecurities. It's really been pissing me off lately. And you know, I was gonna propose to you tonight, but nah, that's okay. I don't wanna marry someone who doesn't even trust me enough for me to send my own text messages. Now I'll call an Uber for you, and you can get your own ride home."
I glanced over at her as her chin trembled and her eyes glistened with tears. "You were gonna propose?"
"Key word: was. Now do you need me to call an Uber?"
She slowly shook her head. "I'll call Carley to pick me up." Her voice trembled and she spoke lowly as she stared off into space. This is what she does. Every time we get into a fight or an argument, she starts acting all sad so you'll feel bad. I know her games now, and I've retired from playing them. "What I don't understand is how a couple minutes ago, you said you loved me... and that you'd never leave me!"
I slammed my hand into the steering wheel. "You think I wanna leave you?! Hell no! I mean it when I say I love you, but you give me no choice!" I took a deep breath and peered out the window. "Look, I don't feel like talking about this right now okay? Please, just get out."
"Fine, I'll go. But don't expect me to ever come back." She grabbed her purse, and slammed the door shut.
I opened my door and ran after her. "Kristen wait!"
