Eliza's P.O.V.
I laugh at what Drake had just said. "We did, didn't we?" I answer.
Drake lets out a chuckle and he hands me the book.
"Thank you." I say, taking hold of the book. "I just wanted a new book series to read while I was staying with you and your dad."
He looks at the front cover of the book.
"Yeah and? Did you find one you wanted?" He asks.
I turned the book over to look at the back, I read the preview of the book and then I looked up at Drake.
I nod my head. "I think so, it looks good." I say.
I looked at the bookshelf and noticed that there were four other books by the author. I pulled them off the shelf and turned to look at Drake.
"I'm ready." I tell him.
Drake takes the books in his hands and we head to the register. I patted at my pockets and realized that I didn't have my wallet or my phone with me. I was about to tell Drake that we need to put the books back because I didn't have money to pay for them when I saw that he was pulling out his wallet. He was handing money to a co-worker of mine, her name is Crystal. I turned to look at him and tugged on his shirt until he looked at me. Once he did, I motioned for him to get closer to me. He leaned down and got his head close to me so I could whisper to him.
"You didn't have to buy the books for me. I'll pay you back when we get back to your place." I whisper.
He shakes his head. "Don't bother Eliza, it's a gift." He whispers back.
A gift? I should be the one giving him and his dad gifts. They allowed me to stay in their house until I got better. Crystal handed the bag full of books to Drake and she waved bye to us.
Drake put an arm around my waist, pulled me close and we walked towards the entrance. I think he was putting on a show for the people I work with, making them think that we are together. I didn't bother taking his arm off of me though because it felt nice. We got to the doors, Drake took his arm off my waist and opened the door for me to walk through. My waist felt lonely when he removed his arm and it made me long for his touch. I walked through the doors and began walking towards Aiden's truck when I felt a tug on my hand, I turned slightly to see that Drake had a hold of my hand.
He tugged on my hand once more and I got the message. He wanted me to get into his jeep. I let him lead me to the passenger side and he opened the door for me. I hopped in and he put the bag on my lap. After shutting the door, Drake went over to the other side and got in as well. He started up the jeep and he began to back up.
"Don't do that again." I announce.
"Do what?" Drake asks when he began to drive forward.
"Buy me books and call it a gift. It should be me buying gifts for you and your dad." I respond.
"You don't owe us anything Eliza; trust me on that." He says.
I gave him the directions to my apartment building when something began to bother me.
"I was pushed." I mumble.
"What was that?" Drake asks.
I turned and looked at him. "At the parking lot of the bookstore, I was pushed out of the way when the car was coming at me." I respond.
Who was the one that had rescued me that day?
"My dad and I followed you. It wasn't to try and kidnap you or anything but I had this feeling that I needed to make sure you got to your car safely. I was the one who pushed you out of the way." Drake says.
My jaw literally dropped to the floor. "You were the one that saved me?!" I exclaimed.
When we came to a stop at a red light, Drake looked at me and nodded.
"I did yes." He says.
"Well, thank you. It's because of you that I'm still alive." I tell him.
A few tears leaked out of my eyes and before I could rub them away, Drake brought his hand up to my face and he brushed away the waterworks with his finger. I smiled a little and I began to lean towards him staring at his lips.
I was just mere inches from his face, I could feel his breath on my face. I was so close to kissing this man when several car horns brought us back to reality. I backed up then and I could see the disappointment on his face. He sat up straight and turned his attention back on the road and he began driving.
We arrived at the parking lot of my apartment building, I opened the passenger door and stepped out. I closed the door and saw Aiden's truck pulling up beside us.
"You live here?" Aiden asks.
I just nod my head. "It's nice and I got great neighbors." I respond.
I look at Drake and see that he's shaking his head.
"I don't approve of this." He says.
I shake my head and roll my eyes. "I don't need your approval. I love where I live and I don't care if you don't like it." I tell him.
I started heading towards the entrance when I realized something, I forgot to tell Drake on the way here that I didn't have my keys to get inside. I turned around to stare at the two men who were standing by their vehicles.
"Apparently I forgot my keys at your house." I say.
Aiden shakes his head and Drake sighs.
"You're kidding right? Please tell me you are." Drake pleads.
"I'm not kidding. I really don't have my keys with me."I say.
Drake sighs again. "Then I guess were coming back tomorrow." He tells me.
