Chapter 15: Hit and Run.

Recap:

"It makes me so upset, twice now. Twice! He has pretended to kiss me." I say, I'm madder than hell.

"It's okay, listen I know that it's hard, but you need to slow down." Eliana says.

"Right sorry." I slow the car down a little realizing I was speeding.

"I don't know what his problem is, but he needs to grow up." Eliana says.

I nod. We hear a screech and I look over, and scream.

Everything goes black.

Auggie.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

I groan, and attempt to open my eyes. Knowing it's not going to work I give up, and keep them closed.

"Oh, my goodness! Auggie?" I hear. Eliana?

"What?" I croak. Or try.

"Auggie?" Eliana asks.

I try to say what again, but nothing comes out.

"Has she woken yet?" I hear Mikey ask.

Woken? I am awake.

"Kody is a mess. It's been 6 days, and she hasn't even shown one sign of improvement. I feel so guilty that I'm not in this position." Eliana says.

"Be glad you aren't in this position. She will get through this, she is strong." Eli says.

"Where is my goddamn niece?" I hear someone yell.

Uncle Kenny? Then, darkness consumes me.

"Where is my goddamn niece?" A man yells.

I look up at this man, and see that he looks familiar, almost like I've seen him before.

"Kenneth? What are you doing here?" I see Auggie's mother walking up to him.

"I'm here for my niece." He says.

"Why would August be here?" She asks.

"You didn't hear already? That's surprising because you work at the hospital she's being held in, and I have a right to know where she is because I am her legal guardian." The man says to her.

"You cannot be! I won't allow it! Who even gave you notice that she was alone?!" She whisper/yells though I can still hear them.

"She did. The poor thing didn't want to live in foster care, so she called me." He smirks.

Auggie's mom gets in his face. "If you lay a hand on her like you did your wife, I will make you wish that you weren't born." She says.

I raise my eyebrows.

"Oh honey, even if she was still with her father, he would've gotten his senses knocked in. He would've hit that girl soon enough. We are twins, so why would we be different? You know he's in jail for beating a woman, right? It was only a matter of time before it was her." The man says.

I feel my blood boil.

"Kenneth, she is going to be with you now. If I hear that she has even a scratch on her, I will hunt you down." She says, turning and walking away.

"Are you Kenneth?" a doctor asks, walking over to the man.

He nods.

"Augustine is a very strong girl, she has been in a coma for six days now. She should wake up soon, but we want to take precautions." The doctor says.
