Carl was my secret admirer. The school heartthrob was my secret admirer.
My head was spinning, thinking if it was really true.
"Carl? What are you doing here?" I asked, still shocked at the fact that the most handsome guy at school is standing in front of me, and the fact that HE is my secret admirer.
"Isn't it obvious? I was waiting for you. I thought you would never come." Carl said, as he sit on the grass.
Thinking that this talk would be for a while, I sit beside him, like a meter away from him, to be exact.
"You're the one who's been sending me those notes? Are you sure?"
'Because I'm not' I thought to myself. I mean, who would think that Carl has that kind of side in him, the cheesy, romantic, secret-admirer kind of thing.
"Yes. Why, who did you expect?"
"Well, surely I didn't expect that it would be you. At all."
"Are you disappointed, that it's me?"
"Hmm. Not really, I mean, I still haven't wrapped my head around it. It's just that, you're Carl Wesley, the Campus Crush. Every girl on campus wants to date you. You could get any girl just by saying hi. I had no idea that you have this kind of side, at all, but why me, of all people, why me?"
"The truth? Because I like you. There's something about you that intrigues me. I want to get to know you better."
"Does Jesse know anything about this?"
"Not yet. I haven't told anyone."
"Are you really sure you're the one that's been writing these notes?" I said, as I wave at him the notes I received today.
"I'm pretty sure I could recognize my own handwriting," he told me, sarcastically.
"So, what do you say? Is it okay for me to ask you out?"
"Whoa. Time out. This is a lot of information to process right now. First, these notes. Second, you. No, you want to date me." I told him.
'Duh, Liz! Of course he wants to date you, that's why he's been sending you notes, stupid.' I thought.
"I'm not saying that you should answer right away. I have to tell your brother first, since your mom is not here yet."
My mom, doesn't live with us because, she's in New York, working in a Law Firm. Since we're already legally adults, she left us the house, so we won't have to move with her to New York, which is a big relief, but she does come home when she's not too busy.
"Fine. Good luck with that." I told him, because I know that my brother is very protective of me and he always says no to guys who wants to ask me out. Not that I don't have any say about my dating life. I'm just not thinking of dating anyone, so I let my brother have all the fun of rejecting guys for me. Perks of having a "big brother", I just hope he doesn't disappoint me.
"Okay then. I'll take that as a yes from you, when your brother say yes," he said, very proud, as if he already knows that my brother will say yes.
"IF he said yes."
"I know that he'll say yes. Come on," he said, as he stand up, reaching for my hand to help me up.
"Come on? Where to?" I said, ignoring his hand, and stood up on my own.
"I'll take you home. Then talk to your brother."
"What? Now? You're going to talk to Jesse now?"
"Yeah. Come on," he said, and took my hand and dragged me across the parking lot. Yeah, he DRAGGED me. I tried to pull back my hand, but no luck.
So, we ended up walking home, holding each other's hand.
When we got home, we saw Jesse in front of the TV.
"Hey sis. What took you so long?" he said, not even looking at me.
"I uh...bumped into Carl today and uh...we talked."
"Oh okay. Dinner's ready. I already ate."
I cleared my throat, trying to get Jesse's attention.
Then Jesse turned around and saw Carl standing beside me.
"You didn't tell me that Carl's with you now." Jesse said.
"That's because you were too busy watching, you didn't even bother to look." I said, and went to the kitchen, not bothering for a reply.
After eating, I saw Jesse and Carl playing video games. I guess Carl hasn't said a word yet. Thank God.
"Jesse, I'll be in my room if you need me." I said, and went up the stairs. Then I heard them talking. I don't know what they're talking about. God, I hope it wasn't about me or what happened earlier.
As I got inside my room, I started overthinking things. I started pacing around my room.
"Liz, you need to get a grip." I told myself.
Not knowing what else to do, I took my out my journal and start writing. Writing clears my head, calms me down.
After a few hours, someone knocked on my door. I stood up and opened it, and saw my brother standing on the doorway, with a big grin on his face.
"Why are you all smiles? Where's Carl?" I asked, nervously, looked behind him, to check if Carl was standing behind him.
He didn't say a word, he just went inside my room and sat on my bed.
"What's wrong with you?" I said, Jesse still smiling, creeping me out.
"Carl told me everything. I had no idea that he likes you. I mean, he kept talking about asking a girl out, but I didn't know it was you."
"What did you say to him? Please, tell me you didn't said yes." I pleaded.
"I said...yes."
"What? Why?"
"What do you mean why? You don't want to?"
"I mean, why now? Why say yes, right now?" I mean, you rejected all my suitors last time, and you had fun doing so. Why now?" I told him, as I paced back and forth.
"Well, first, because I like him. Second, I trust him. Lastly, he's my friend."
It's not that I don't want to date Carl, it's just that I want to see him challenged, but apparently, it was too easy to get my brother's permission.
While thinking what will happen, my phone started to ring. Jesse looked at the number on the screen.
"Hmm. Unknown number, maybe it's Carl," he said, teasingly, tossed me my phone, and stood up from my bed.
"No, you didn't." I said, with a mortified look on my face.
Then he just went out of the room, saying nothing.
"Hello?" I answered the phone.
"Hey," my brother was right it was Carl.
"Hey." I said, Okay, I don't what to say, I was panicking.
"Jesse said yes," he said, very happily.
"Yeah, I know. He just told me."
"Starting today, I'm officially courting you," he said and hang up.
What did he just say? He is now officially courting me. I ran it through my mind, over and over again.
Then it finally sink in. He will be courting me from now on. What would everybody at school think, when word gets out? What would these possessive-obsessive girls do, if they find out?
Oh God. I'm dead.
