How the heck do Christianity and witchcraft go together?
How do I make it work?
What is it like to be a witch?
First things first: It's cool if people don't agree with me. We're all allowed to have opinions and practice our religions freely. Respect me, and I will respect you as well. Secondly, witchcraft isn't for everybody. Just because I do it and it's become part of my way to connect with God and appreciate the world around me doesn't mean you have to do it too. It's not shits and giggles, either. The world of magick is a hard door to close once opened.
Now to clear things up Paganism, Wicca, and witchcraft are not the same things. So if one of you comes running around to my inbox and spamming me with "YOU PAGAN HAG!!1! YOUR A HERETIC AND AN ABOMINATION IN GODS EYES YOU WILL BURN IN HELL FOR BEING THE WICKAN!!!1!" I'll know you weren't paying attention to what I was saying. And that you didn't pass grade school English standards.
Okay, so the first thing that needs to be discussed is:
What is witchcraft?
There's honestly no simple answer.
By definition, witchcraft is simply the practice of magick and magickal abilities by a group or solitary practitioner. Though I can tell you witchcraft is much more then that.
To me, witchcraft is about sensitivity to the energies around you and learning to harmonize with them. It's also about connecting with nature, understanding and seeing what can't be seen. It's about healing, realizing, learning, and teaching. It's about a deeper understanding and relationship with yourself and the world around you.
As mentioned, witchcraft is not a religion, so you can absolutely use your craft to strengthen your religion and incorporate it into your craft. That's what I do.
Now aside from all the mushy mushy philosophical stuff mentioned above about witchcraft, it's also about manipulating energy to bring change (usually with the desired outcome). This can come in many forms, from using the Law of Attraction to simply casting a spell. There's also spirit work and healing and on and on, but that's another chapter subject.
So now you've sorta got a grip on what witchcraft is, let's dive right into Christianity and witchcraft. If you've read the Bible or know what it says about witchcraft, you'll know that the Bible condemns it in multiple instances. Exodus 22:18, for example, states "You shall not permit a sorceress to live", and while it varies from translation, it means the same thing. Though I'm only citing Exodus 22:18, you can google "bible verses on witchcraft" and find about 20 other verses relaying the same message: don't get involved with witchcraft/the occult.
Now that you understand what the Bible says about witchcraft, I'll explain to you my justification for my craft.
My first point is that the word 'witchcraft' has changed drastically since the writing of the New and Old Testaments. Remember, the Bible was written 3,400+ years ago, first by passing down biblical stories, then (around the 6th century B.C.) written in the ancient Hebrew language. As a person who studies the Bible and it's history and translations, I can tell you that mistranslations are not uncommon at all, and the topic of witchcraft is one big mistranslation, and it's terribly outdated.
The other point is that before Medieval Times-ish, it was totally okay to go to a psychic and ask for guidance. Then politicians and the church (which were basically the same thing at the time) saw witchcraft as a threat/did not like them, and began saying along that the occult would get you sent to hell. In fact, it's occultists like Crowley from the 1900's that began the talk of condemning occultism again.
Final point is that, according to an early Christian doctrine, witches were depicted as women who sold their souls to the devil for magickal power and worked closely with demons, etc. Witches, in reality, are nothing like this. And everybody has their own path and relationship with God, magickal or not.
So how exactly a Christian witch does their craft is another question for another chapter, but hopefully, I've answered some questions that you readers might have.
