Injury
(Chapter Five of Just an Heir’s prequel – A Silent Lover)
A month later.
Stephanie rubbed her eyes using her right hand to make herself feel alive for the day. She was about to stretch her arms when she can’t move it. A muscular arm was hugging her from behind, holding her waist securely. It was a possessive gesture in her opinion. In stories, she thought it was sweet. How awkward it was in reality.
The guy hugging her turned out to be Carlos, of course. Her bipolar yet sexy husband – he was so masculine. His head was buried on her shoulder and he had his arm wrapped around her waist. He was also shirtless.
She turned her body to face him and he didn’t move an inch. Instead, he tightened his hold on her waist. She blushed and felt her heart accelerate. What the heck is with our position? For some reason, she didn’t have the guts to push him away. He was sleeping like a lost child who finally found refuge in her arms.
She smiled at that thought. Carlos was honestly adorable like that, making Stephanie wish that he would show his vulnerable side. Just once.
But she really had to push him away. Her bladder was about to explode. Besides, why was he sleeping in her room? If she remembered correctly, he was the one who decided that they should be sleeping in different rooms!
Carlos woke up due to someone pushing him. Shit! He cursed to himself. He was supposed to sleep for a few minutes in such a position last night, but he fell asleep!
He wasn’t supposed to be this careless. He was to keep a safe distance between her. But waking up beside her, it felt so right to him yet so wrong. Reluctantly, he pulled away and lay on his back. Without a word, she rushed to the bathroom, and in the midst of silence, he heard the sound of someone peeing. I see. She really wanted to pee.
When she went out of the bathroom, Stephanie’s hair was neatly tied in a ponytail. She was wearing a silky dark blue robe that complimented her pale complexion, covering her white tank top and shorts. He must say that her true beauty was very incomparable.
How can someone look so dazzling without putting so much effort? She’s already standing right in front to him.
She looked at him. He looked at her.
He was frozen. He can’t move.
What should he say?
Instead, without hesitation, he picked his fallen white shirt on the floor and wore it quickly. He ignored her stare and attempted to leave, but she held his wrist before he can touch the door knob.
He’s now trapped. What should he do? Be the ice king. Show her she can’t command you. He glared at her and removed her hold on his arm. “What’s your problem?” he snapped, even though if they were in a different situation, he would have said good morning.
“Good morning Carlos. Actually, that’s my line,” she frowned. “Why are you sleeping here? I thought we’ll have separate rooms?”
Carlos was trying to escape, huh? She almost wanted to laugh, but she kept a serious expression. He looked at her and arched an eyebrow. “Men make mistakes. I was drunk last night."Stephanie laughed. Drunk? He didn’t even reek of alcohol! If he was trying to come up with a good alibi, he was doing a horrible job.
