Chapter Two

After taking a shower in the dingy bathroom, which I may add was absolutely freezing I got dressed in yesterday's previous skinny jeans and tattered converse, a fresh green tank top I found in my duffel bag and my hoodie. With that done I headed out. Keeping my hood hung low over my face I all but sprinted out of the building, down the ally and into the street. Hands buried deep in my pockets I peered out from beneath the hood and quickly gave everyone in sight a once over. They all appeared safe but then again appearances can be deceiving. That is something which I found out about the hard way, tragically. I sighed bitterly as memories of the past two years cane creeping back on me.

Discreetly as possible I kept to the shadows of the looming buildings and walked as quick as possible over the cobbled street. Bypassing all the small shops I snuck little glances in them. I needed to find somewhere small and it had to be busy yet little at the same time. An average little café would probably do just fine. Perhaps maybe just see if there were any openings for waitressing or just cleaning up. Yeah I could do that but if not then maybe I could go to music shop of sorts. Maybe see if I could help out at the till and help people pick whatever instrument they may be looking for. I was pretty good at maths and music back in school. Hopefully I'm still as good.

Biting down on my lip at the thought of school I couldn't help but feel a little nervous if I were to ask for a job. I mean what would I do if they asked about my grades and such? My address would probably also be a problem.... Oh I really should have thought this all through before in left the hotel. In fact that reminds me, I never had breakfast nor dinner.

Halting to a stop as my stomach just happened to grumble loudly I laughed as I caught the smell of freshly baked goods that floated in the air from where I can only guess as a bakery.

Maybe I could get a two for one deal here I thought chuckling softly to myself. Following my nose like a dog I walked on towards where the smell was coming from. Walking briskly I did my best to avoid all the people darting in and out the small shops as I headed towards the bakery. Finally as I reached it I smiled ever so slightly and pressed my fingers up against the window softly admiring the little place.

It was beautiful...

It all looked so welcoming inside. It wasn't just a bakery but a café as well. It just seemed so cosy like. Homey even. It had a little display case over towards the right filled with freshly baked breads and little cakes, next to it sat a tall counter top where the till rested as well as a nice old fashioned coffee maker just behind it. Towards the middle of the room there were just a few odd tables but mainly just some large rusty red sofas against the wall facing short wooden tables. Along the edges, here at the window, there was a couple barstools.

It truly did look gorgeous in its own little way. I mean who couldn't just not like this place?

Smiling at the little clusters of people inside I pried my fingers away from the window and smiled as I entered the door when it chimed. Keeping my head still low I finally decided to pull down my hood but kept my hair around my face as if it could protect me. Dumb it may be but it helps me feel safer. With a quick glance at the foods on display I bit my lip growing hungrier by the second. I almost jumped when I saw I was being watched.

"Hello, welcome to Honey' s Bakery! I'm Sarah, what can I get you?" The girl chirped. She had soft pale features with big brown eyes and long golden hair pulled back in a high pony tail with a blue bandana at the top of her head. I'd say she was about my age. Maybe a year younger or two?

"I'll have a cinnamon roll, please. Oh and small coffee."

"Light or dark?"

"Light will be good."
