"Well, don't you look handsome," Janet says as she enters my car. "How am I so good at choosing out your clothes?"She continued.

"Thanks, I guess" I shrugged. She should be proud of what she's wearing. The short red dress that she picked out makes her look really cute. "You look good yourself...by the way."

She turned her head without saying anything. It's rare to see Janet not react to a compliment. Was what I said that weird? "You've never complimented anyone before," Janet says still facing the window.

"Maybe not out loud, but definitely in my head. Don't feel weird, I'm just more comfortable around you." I smiled. I have no idea why or how a compliment is this significant to her, but I don't want it to affect her like that.

"Yeah, whatever. J-Just drive."

The drive was pretty silent. When we arrived at the dinner place, everyone was already there waiting for us.

"You didn't tell me that the dinner would be at a 5-star resort. I feel so underdressed." Veronica was extremely uncomfortable. She wore a yellow sundress with sandals. That's not really appropriate in a place like this. I guess I just assumed that she knew that Harry was rich, oh well. At least her face is really pretty, maybe people will look at that and ignore the rest.

"Cunningham, its been a minute," Janet says. Cunningham wore a black suit with a pink bow tie. It matched Mindy's semi-long dress.

"Yeah, we should meet up again like we use to." He smiled. "Except, without Cams this time"

"Who needs that jerk." Janet rolled her eyes.

"Whose Cams?" Veronica appeared suddenly.

"My ex, he's a total airhead."

"V-veronica, you look nice," Cunningham says awkwardly. "I'm really glad you came."

You can practically feel the daggers that Mindy was shooting at Cunningham. That idiot is so obvious. I'm starting to see what Veronica was talking about, but I don't think Cunningham is stupid enough to betray Mindy so easily.

"Oh and Hye I can't stay, I have a doctor's appointment to go to. I really only came to drop off Mindy." Cunningham says.

'Idiot, I invited you here for a reason. And if you knew that you weren't staying why did you dress up?'

Without saying another word, Cunningham left the country club. One man down, but as long as everyone else is still here I think this can work. After a while, Harry and my mother arrived and greeted us.

"Hye, you have all these friends. Please introduce them to us." He said.

Completely ignoring him, I introduced everyone to my mother. "Mother, this is Veronica, Janet, and you already know Mindy". I hope Harry is prepared for the worst time of his life. My mother will leave today a single woman, I'll make sure of it.

Everyone takes their seat at a large outdoor table. I have to admit, the scenery was quite nice. Unfortunately, that means nothing to me.
"So, Hye I know that letting in a stranger into your life is never an easy thing, but I already like you. Yet it feels as if you don't feel the same. How about we get to know each other."

I'm pretty sure everyone was taken aback when I immediately said, "Just so we're clear, I don't like you and we're not going to get along. This is a waste of time."

"I don't consider spending time with my future son in law as a waste" He retaliated. If only he knew how much I hated when he insulted me by calling me his 'son in law'.

"That's not what I mean. I mean, what's a millionaire doing in this town with the local whore? You can't tell me that its simply because of love. Don't you have business to take care of? An image to uphold?"

"-Hye, that's enough" Janet whispered sharply, nudging at my shirt.

"Hold on I'm not done yet," I replied, shaking her handoff. "Tell me, Harry, what hidden motives do you really have?"

"...The local whore?" My mother stood with tears filling her eyes. My heart dropped instantly. I didn't actually mean it like that. I was just trying to protect her. I needed to say whatever to shake off Harry.

"Mother...I."

"Save it. I think we're done here." She stormed off. Harry looked incredibly pissed as he also stood dramatically, going after my mother. "I don't care if you hate me or disrespect me, but your mother is off-limits." He immediately ran after her.

Damn it

That was not how things were supposed to go. I didn't think she'd be so offended. She and I have both heard people call her worst names.

"You totally blew it," Janet said. "I told you to quit it. Why didn't you listen?"

"Let's just go." I don't even know why I didn't listen. I had a feeling that I was pushing it, but I never imagined my mother being offended by this kind of thing. It seems that, at the moment, I was willing to sacrifice anything to get rid of Harry, even my mother.
