He always felt animals were clumsy and petty.  Walking around on four legs or flippers, or flying around,  always messing up his work, messing up what they were building for everyone, everything.
Phantom Mx47880gX10 had little status.  He had little significance. But if anyone saw what he did,  he was sure they'd change their mind.
As a mechanic,  he only fixed machines.
Made to break.
Corrupt.
End.
But he made it beautiful.
Intricate designs and dazzling displays of arms and beauty and cold,  cold metal,  in contrast with his warm heart and smile.
Today his job was simple: out-wit the animals in the halls. Take them back.  Show them who's boss.
Nothing bad'll happen,  right?
He crept through the halls, slipping sensors under the bricks,  cameras in the walls, and traps everywhere he looked.
If you saw his trap, it looked like an ordinary bombseed. It sat on the floor, unmoving,  but a beacon of hope for those who needed it. When picked up,  though, it would explode in a purple blast and immobilize those effected until either the slime was removed, or he disabled the trap.
And he wouldn't fail again.
He couldn't afford that anymore.
He slunk down the hallway,  spying a grayscale animal. It had a gray flag on and horns that stuck up from its head at angles.  It's tail was made of bone,  its eyes closed shut with tears streaming down it's face.
"Please...," it sobbed to itself pathetically, its head hanging low as it slumped against the wall.
Mx47880gX10 watched the thing in pity.  He wanted to help it.
No,  no,  I can't.  I have to capture it,  those were my orders!
But he malfunctioned,  doing what he knew he should instead of what he was told to.
He crept forward, trying to comfort the crying creature. "Are you alright?" he asked quietly.
The animal jumped,  startled. It's eyes opened,  the only color to be seen on it.  They were sparkling emeralds in a dark cavern, rare and beautiful.
"I-I didn't mean to let them go,  I-" the animal began to explain frantically,  its sparkling eyes becoming feral and terrified.
Mx47880gX10 was confused. "Let who go?" he inquired,  blinking in confusion.
This time, it was the animal's turn to be confused. "Y-you don't know?"
"I only make machines. I'm no warden or guard," the phantom explained.
"But...," the animal asked,  "I was called a traitor,  you guys hate us..."
The phantom shrugged the best he could,  as he had no shoulders. "I don't," he smiled.
