Melissa's POV
I can't believe we finally did it. I moved to London with my best friend, Vanessa Ferreira. This is something we've wanted to do since we were little to just get away from Florida. To find new people, new places, and just a new adventure.
I've been so excited to finally get here that I've been researching the city for the past week so I can kind of get myself around since we don't have a car. I woke up extra early to go run a few errands since we don't really have anything at our flat. I also just want to start sightseeing a little bit. This city is so beautiful. I don't want to wake up Vanessa though. I'll just write her a note to tell her to meet me at Nando's at noon.
So I left the flat wearing an outfit I bought before we left the US: a loose hot pink button-up top, white skinny jeans, and my favorite navy Toms. I'm out the door. I started walking trying to find the nearest grocery store. I need to get a little bit of food since we don't have any at our flat.
Vanessa's POV
I am on a Ferris wheel. Laughing, I start to rock back and forth in my seat, enjoying myself. Something inside me tells me I need to stop but I just can't. Suddenly, as I rock myself forward, the lap bar unlatches and I find myself falling. Panic soon takes over and, as I fall, I start screaming for help. Nobody comes to my rescue and THUD! SHIT. I find myself on the floor of my best friend Melissa Benson and I's new flat. Scared, I soon realize I fell from my bed while I was sleeping and it was all just a dream. What a relief. I turn around to check what time it is on my alarm clock: 10 A.M. Where's Melissa though? I walk out of our bedroom and go into the kitchen to get some vanilla yogurt from the fridge. That's when I see her note:
Hey I've gone out to go do some errands, meet me at Nando's at noon.
-Melissa
Nando's? I don't even know where that is. Come to think of it, I don't know where anything is. A vague memory surfaces where Melissa was showing me a map of the streets of London and how to use pounds during our last week in the U.S. Of course, I had more important things on my mind at the time like what stores in London I'll be shopping for clothes in and such. I open the barely stocked fridge to get a carton of vanilla yogurt, grab a spoon, and sit on the counter to eat my breakfast. After I've had my fill, I go take a hot shower and change into my outfit for the day. A loose, long sleeved, mint colored shirt, black skinny jeans, and gray Keds with yellow shoe laces will do. Today just feels like one of those laid-back days. I quickly curl my hair, apply my makeup, put on a black bowler hat, and (satisfied with my look) finally check the time on my phone: 11:30. I'M OUT. Grabbing my white leather studded backpack, my key to the flat, and slipping on my Ray Bans, I'm out the door and onto the busy streets of London.
Now where is this Nando's that Melissa was talking about? I say to myself as I typed in Nando's on Google on my phone. I tap on the map of the nearest Nando's and start walking as Melissa and I do not have car. Aight, the most I can take getting to Nando's is ten minutes so let me pass the time with some music. I reach into the front pocket of my backpack, pull out my ear buds, put my playlist on shuffle, and bring up the map again. AND PARTY AND BULLSHIT, AND PARTY AND BULLSHIT, AND PARTY AND PARTY My song, How We Do by Rita Oro is the first song to play. I let the music take over my body. People before have said I have a talent for dancing. I've been a self-taught dancer all my life. When I hear music playing, it's just natural for me to start dancing. As I am dancing my way down the street, people's heads turn toward my direction but I could care less what they think of me.
And then it happens. Midway through the song, my phone goes dead on me. SHIT, SHIT, SHITTT. I THOUGHT I CHARGED YOU LAST NIGHT! HOW AM I GONNA FIND NANDO'S NOW?! Don't panic Vanessa, don't panic. I can do this, I just got to ask someone where Nando's is. A man walks by and I stop him to ask where Nando's is located. Nando's? "It's right across from Starbucks!" Melissa took me out for Starbucks yesterday, I can somewhat remember where it is. THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR! I start walking again, this time looking for the Starbucks. It wasn't until after what felt like ten minutes that I realized I kept passing by the same boutique. This can only mean one thing, I'M LOST, UGHHH! I cried out, sliding down against a wall while covering my face with my hands. I heard a few passerby mutter "stupid American". How can they even say that without even knowing me? Vanessa just ignore it, your main priority right now is to find Nando's. After walking around in circles (and being called "stupid American") for what seemed like an eternity, I somehow found the Starbucks and, right across from it, NANDO'S!
