》 BURST OF COLOR
inspired by: @Madilame

There is a rule in this world. Once you find your soulmate you can see color. If you make contact without knowing it, you could see dull colors, but if you both are well aware you're making contact you are both now able to see color. This starts at the age of 15.

××

"Edwin," I whined to my best friend. I plopped down on the bed next to Edwin. He was playing video games. Normally I join him, but right now I am bored out of my mind. "Give me attention."

"I'm busy, Luna," he replied, but never took his eyes off the dimly lighted television. "Can you draw me a picture?"

"Oh c'mon!" I exclaimed. "You're just asking for that favor, so I can go away and let you play." He put the controller down and turned to look at me.

He scoffed, "let's make a deal," he suggested. I raised an eyebrow and let him continue. "Once you finish my painting, I will turn off my Xbox and give you all the attention in the world," he suggested. Fair enough.

"Deal." I pulled out my sketchbook and color pencils. I laid them out on the bed. Edwin scooted over so he could give me space. I plopped down on the bed.

What should I draw?

I looked over at Edwin. I looked at how focused he was. He had a sharp jawline. His hair was styled to perfection. He had dark eyes, but they had a spark in them that made them seem lighter and soft.

Before I knew it, I was sketching out Edwin. He was a handsome being. Worth my time. I looked at every little detail.

Is this an excuse to check him out? Probably.

Wait! I can't check out my best friend!

I glanced over at him. His eyes stayed glued to the television. I kept sketching and shook out all those thoughts, about my best friend, in my head. Hours passed by. I was almost finished.

"Luna, are you finished?" Edwin asked. I shook my head no. I was adding the final details. "Can I have a peek?"

"No!" I exclaimed and pulled the sketch up to my chest. He came towards me. I stood up, in front of the bed.

"Why not, Luna?" he asked with a smirk playing on his face. He jumped off the bed and came towards me. His tall figure towered over me. I bit my bottom lip. I gave up and handed it to him.

"I don't like it," I mumbled while looking down to hide my blush. We stood in silence. I looked up at him.

"This is beautiful, Luna," he chocked out in utter shock. I mumbled thanks. I looked closer at him to see he had tearstained cheeks. He lightly touched the drawing while letting tears fall freely.

"What's wrong?" I asked him worried. He looked up at me. I tear escaped my eyes.

"It's dull," he replied. Dull? "The only bright thing here is that twinkle in your eye." I gasped.

"Dull?" I stammered. He cocked an eyebrow.

"I've been seeing color," he replied and rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand.

"I've been too, but I was scared to tell you," I stated quietly. His head shot up. He put the drawing down and took steps toward me. I could feel the heat radiating off his body. He lifted my chin up.

"Never be afraid of me, Luna. I will never hurt you," he told me softly. We kept string eye contact. Not being able to contain myself, I close the gap between us. Our lips moved in beautiful sync. Like if they were meant to be.

"I can see color," Edwin stated while we pulled apart. "They're beautiful. The sudden burst of color in your eyes."
