Fairy tales are a load of bull. At least, that's what Valerie Lockhart believes.
Not the part about magic or fate or fairy godmothers - though she highly doubts that those exist either - but the part about happy endings. The happy endings in fai...

Valerie Lockhart, for all social purposes, lived like an eighty-two year old lady. Having moved to an entirely different state for college, she didn't exactly have the privilege of knowing a lot of people around. Between her part time job at the diner, the constant stream of work from college and the endless amount of books at the local library calling her name, Valerie didn't exactly have a flourishing social life. But once in a blue moon, Valerie found herself craving social gatherings- needing the carefree fun of college parties for a while. To feel like a normal girl for a few glorious seconds.
The only problem is, other than having a social life that resembled Casper's ghost, Valerie also had the misfortune of always being at the wrong place, at the very worst time. If washing someone else's stomach acid off of her didn't prove that, well, then nothing could.
A furious knocking on the bathroom door had Valerie jumping in her own skin.
"Ocupado," she called, her heart still in her throat. Didn't people nowadays know what a freaking closed door meant?
Apparently not, she realised when the banging on the door was repeated, even louder the second time around.
"That means that someone else is in here, Einstein," Valerie snapped at the door with a roll of her hazel eyes. "Go find another bathroom that isn't being used."
"You have to get out of there right now." It was a male voice that answered from the other side. Deep and thunderous- a voice that held the tone of someone who was used to being obeyed.
Valerie found her irritation melt away; found herself wanting to open the door all of a sudden. A quick shake of her head had the desire falling away. Valerie chalked it up to the excessive amount of booze she had all but inhaled earlier. This is what she got for being so stupidly irresponsible.
Frustrated with the annoying guy at the other side of the door- frustrated with herself, Valerie let out an annoyed breath as she finished washing off, meeting her own reflection in the bathroom mirror. And found that she was not alone.
She almost soiled her undergarments.
"Oh. My. Gosh," Valerie breathed, her heart beating as wildly as the fangirls at a live BTS concert. "I had no idea that someone was in here," she apologised, a hand at her chest in hopes of keeping her frantic heart in her rib cage. She was a mere 18 years of age, and yet she was already a candidate for heart failure.
Great.
"Typical of me to walk in on someone in the bathroom. It seems like this night just keeps on getting better." An apologetic smile was sent towards the male with pale golden hair in hopes of easing the awkwardness.
Valerie realised then, completely out of the blue, that the guy in front of her was kind of hot. OK, very hot, with pale golden hair that shimmered in the flourescent light of the bathroom and baby blue eyes. He would have looked innocent, boy-ish even, had it not been for the mischievous smirk playing on his lips. A smirk that promised dangerous fun.
"No problem," he said, his voice deep and alluring- like a siren's call. "I don't mind being stuck in a small space with a beautiful girl like yourself."
Under any normal circumstances, Valerie would have raised an eyebrow, crossed her arms, pursed her lips and gave him a look that said, Really? But instead, she found herself taking a step forward, mesmerised by his eyes. A loud bang on the other side of the door had her thinking better of it.
"I'm going to break down this door if you don't open up right now," the voice from earlier thundered, his tone promising that he would make good on his threat should he not be obeyed. Suddenly, Valerie found that she much preferred facing the weirdo outside than spending another second in the small confines of the bathroom with the blond male that just seemed a bit.... off.
As her hand reached for the doorknob, a pale hand shot out and grabbed her by the wrist, halting any further movement. He tsk-ed, shaking his head solemnly as a mocking smirk spread across his lips. His grip was icy cold and held a strength that told Valerie that he could easily break her bones. His lips curled in a manner that would have been called a smile had it not been for the cruelty behind it. In a whisper, he said, "I don't think so."

Hayden could feel the surge of fear that burst from the bathroom, and in a panic he realised that he shouldn't have given the human the courtesy of asking. With a single kick to the door, the wooden barrier fell from its hinges, and Hayden stepped inside. Without hesitation, the male removed a shrunken hilt of a sword out of his jacket, and at his silent demand, the hilt grew and a shining blade sprang free in a surge of blue light.
The fair haired male had the human girl pressed against him, his arms around her in a lover's embrace, using her as a shield from the sword. From her clenched teeth and grimace, it was safe to asume that his the embrace didn't inspire feelings of romance.
"Let. Her. Go," Hayden snarled, taking a threatening step towards them, but halting when the the girl winced at the tightening of her captor's grip.
"OK, I don't know what the heck is going on," the dark haired girl bit out. "But leave me the hell out of it."
Hayden's eyes met those of the girl, trying to tell her to keep calm with a look. She gave him a look that told him where to shove it in reply.
"If you both don't let me go in the next ten seconds, I swear I'll scream bloody murder. I did drama in high school, so I can really project."
This girl was paving the way to her own murder and she didn't even know it. If she kept threatening them, Hayden knew it wouldn't end well for her. Troopers didn't much appreciate being threatend- Hayden had learned that the hard way.
"Everyone is either too drunk or too horny to care," the other male purred, dragging his jaw across the girls neck in a lover's caress, all the while keeping his eyes on the male with the sword. "It is with good reason that we pick college parties for our prey."
Hayden's sharp eyes didn't miss the way the girl's body stiffened and goosebumps appeared on her skin. A nauseating wave of fear radiated from her, so strong that her aura was painted an ominous black. If Hayden could smell her fear, so could the other male, and Hayden expected that it would only excite the Trooper even futher.
What he didn't expect, though, was for the human to knock her head back onto her assailant's nose. By the look of shock on the other male's face, Hayden guessed that he hadn't expected that either.
"Crap. That hurt." The words came from the girl- not the male, even though a blue-black steam of blood was now trickling from his nose. That probably hurt her more than it did her captor.
"That wasn't very nice," the pale haired male said through clenched teeth, whiping his blood off onto her shoulder. His eyes never left the sword of blazing blue light. "Blood for blood," he said in a sing-song voice, and sank his teeth into her neck.
