"That wasn't very nice," the pale haired male said through clenched teeth, whiping his blood off onto her shoulder. His eyes never left the sword of blazing blue light. "Blood for blood," he said in a sing-song voice, and sank his teeth into her neck.
"No!" Hayden seized the moment of his opponent's lapse in attention by swinging his weapon around to hit the other male with the pommel of his sword- hard enough to make the Trooper see stars. The pale haired male stummbled back at the assault, releasing his grip on the girl. The blue-blackblood flowed freely from his nose now- like a liquid night sky.
Blinking rapidly as if to clear her head, the dark haired female stood motionless, a trickle of red blood leaking from two puncture wounds. Hayden carefully yanked her away by her T-shirt and pushed her behind him- well, as carefully as a muscled 6'2 male with adrenaline and supernatural streng pulsing through his veins could.
In a blur of speed, the other male lunged at Hayden, eyes blazing, so fast that no human would be able to dodge him. But Hayden wasn't a human, and he easily sidestepped the attack. Blinded by fury and the high of human blood, the Trooper collided with a mirrored wall, shattering the reflective surface into hundreds of pieces.
Seizing the opportunity, Hayden lunged for the other male, blade aiming for the chest. In a flash of movement, the Trooper managed to dodge the assault and returned the favour by stabbing at Hayden with a shard of the broken mirror. Years of training and muscle memory were the only things that saved him as Hayden sprang back, the sharp edge only managing a cut along his wrist. With a hiss, Hayden dropped his blade as glittering golden blood dripped from his arm.
Giving his opponent no time at recovery, the Trooper lunged. His teeth were bared in a savage grin. A punch to the liver had Hayden gasping for breath and staggering in an attempt at staying on his feet. Two more punches to the gut came soon after. Cornered, Hayden could barely manage to block the assaults before the next came.
Hayden was just about to reach for his dagger, immobilise his opponent and ride off into the sunset- but fate seemed to have other plans in mind. With a sickening thunk to the head, the fair haired male stumbled back, revealing the girl, armed with a toilet tank cover, standing behind him. Grunting, she lifted the heavy tank cover once more. With a powerful swing, she claimed the title of saviour of the day by hitting the Trooper over the head for a second time.
After the moment of shock passed, Hayden gripped his dagger and sank the blade into the staggering Trooper's neck in a blurring speed. And- just to be one hundred percent sure- the girl dropped the heavy porcelain lid onto the fair haired male's face.
That was going to leave a mark.
Laughter bubbled from the lips of the girl as she stood staring at the body. The more she looked at the blue-black blood pooling around her feet, the louder her panicked laughter became. "When they told me that college parties were wild, I didn't think that they meant the Stephen King kind."
Hayden just gave her a sidelong look, a bit worried about her mental well being.
"I'm sorry about this mess," he said, "but don't worry- when you wake up tomorrow moring, you won't remember anything." A bit of magic would make sure of that.
"Not that it matters, but I'm Hayden," he introced himself, offering a hand for her to shake. He didn't really know why he was introduceing himself- maybe it was to take her mind off the corpse in front of them, maybe he was just feeling chatty. Who knew?
"Pleasure making your acquaintance, Aiden," she said dully, ignoring his outstretched hand. "I'm, uh- I'm not feeling so well ." And with that, she fell. Face first.
Hayden had missed his glorious moment of saving the day, so this was his chance of redeeming himself. As the girl fell, he heroically swooped in and gracefully caught her, before proceeding to walk out into the sunset carrying her bridal-style.
Or, at least, that's what he would have liked to do.
Instead, he stood there, dumbfounded, as he watched her fall face first into a puddle of blue-black blood.
"Crap."
Crap indeed. Years of training for the battlefield, yet he couldn't catch a falling girl. How heroic.
Hastily, he knelt down beside her - careful to keep the Trooper's blood from staining his jeans, of course - and picked her up carefully. Using some of the nearby toilet paper, he cleaned the blood off her face.
Hayden took the moment to actually look at her- took in her long dark hair and her eyebrows that were furrowed even in her unconscious state. For a human, he realised, she didn't look too bad.
Without thinking about what he was doing, a hand reached out to tuck a piece of curly black hair behind her ear. The movement was instinctive, like it was the most natural thing in the world. And when his skin brushed hers, something fundamental in him... shifted. Slow at first, like the sun's first rays appearing after the night- and then faster. Stronger. Like the sun beaming so bright that it hurts your eyes, yet you can't bring yourself to look away from the beauty.
All Hayden could do was gape at the unconscious human girl in his arms as his entire soul, his entire being, was ripped apart and put back together. Put back together differently. Because his soul no longer lived on its own, was no longer whole. It was a half of a whole- a part of something bigger.
And that's when Hayden realised that the unconscious human covered in puke and blood, was his soul mate.
"Crap."
Crap indeed.
