Chapter 4
The Golden Couple
- EDEN GARCIA -
As had been the case yesterday morning, Lewis plagues my thoughts on the short drive to school. So much so that I miss a turn-off and have to chuck a u-turn to change course.
I'm undeniably attracted to Lewis, there's absolutely no doubting that. His messy light brown hair and wide caramel-brown eyes couldn't look better on anybody else.
So why can't I bring myself to tell him I like him? Why can't I even hint at it?
"Hey Eden." I was so caught up in my own head that I wasn't aware what was going on in the world around me. I hadn't even seen the figure approach.
"Aiden. Hey."
He cranes his neck slightly to look me right in the face before chuckling and falling into step beside me.
"What?" I ask.
"Just checking you didn't have bruises on your face from those skittles last night." I find myself smirking, the amusement more apparent today than it had been during the time of the event.
"To be honest, I wouldn't have been surprised. You know what did surprise me, though- you showing up on my doorstep."
"That was as much of a surprise to me as it was to you," he states with a grin. "I had no idea or I would have said something to you."
"I hope so."
He nudges me playfully with his elbow. "Aren't you excited that our parents are, like, best friends now? We'll probably be seeing a lot more of each other."
"Don't remind me," I joke. "Hopefully I disgusted your Mum enough to ward you guys away."
Aiden groans, as though being reminded of something unpleasant. "Actually, it's the opposite. She would not shut up about you on the drive home. Seriously," he mutters.
Slightly taken aback, it's only a few seconds before I recover, smiling smugly. "At least someone appreciates me."
"And you appreciate him." Aiden nods his head in the direction of Lewis, who is walking our way.
Elbowing Aiden in the side to make him shut up, I quietly grind out, "How the fuck do you even know about that?"
Slinging his arm casually over my shoulders, Aiden leans in slightly and speaks in a low voice, as though he's about to spill classified information.
And who knows, maybe he is.
"You happen to have a sister who I now sit next to in Maths class." As he speaks, I feel small vibrations emanating from where his side presses softly against mine.
"Kenzie's the rat?"
"I just happen to possess great persuasion skills and more than a little charm."
"Oh god, I do not need to hear about you having the hots for my sister."
"By saying I have the hots for your twin, you're insinuating I have the hots for you," Aiden winks.
"Eden," Lewis calls, heading over to us with his hands in his pockets. He appears slightly uncomfortable; a stark contrast to his demeanour yesterday afternoon.
"Hey Lewis," I smile. "What's up?"
"Just wanted to know if Brody's making it today?"
"Should be. If he could be bothered getting his lazy ass out of bed. Give him a couple more minutes," I smirk, "or maybe ten."
