Chapter Seven

“Oh, Vi, you look…beautiful,” Decklan breathed. I smiled. I felt beautiful.

I’d gone dress shopping with my mother, and she was ecstatic that I’d gotten a date, and it was Decklan to boot. We found the perfect dress. It was gold and strapless and sparkly. I loved it.

I’d gotten my hair and nails done. I did my makeup at home. We’d won the game last night, thanks to Decklan. He was nominated for homecoming king, being in the senior class.

He was wearing a black suit and a gold tie. His hair was fixed and his eyes glowed. He looked beyond sexy. I was going to have to beat the girls off with a bat. He was mine for the night.

“Thank you,” I smiled. He pinned my corsage onto my wrist, and I pinned his on.

“Shall we go?” he asked, and I nodded. He helped me in his car, even though I didn’t need help. I think it was just his excuse to stare at me a while longer.

He drove to the fanciest restaurant in town, which was actually really expensive. It was always swamped during homecoming season. I wondered how he’d managed to get in.

“Stay here, I want to open your door for you,” he said, after shutting off his car.

“Alright,” I laughed. He got out, and ran over to my side of the car. He opened my door and grabbed my hand, helping me out of the car. It made me kind of glad that he was so gentlemanly. I was still unsure as to whether this was a date-date or a friends thing.

He held out his arm, and I looped mine through his, as he escorted me inside.

“Reservation for Foster,” he said to the waiter. They led us to a table, and Decklan pulled out my chair for me. I sat down, and they delivered our drinks and menus.

“Pick whatever you want; I’m paying,” he said. As if that made it any better. I picked the cheapest thing on the menu, and he gave me a dirty look. I just smiled at him, giving him a small shrug.

“It really sucks that Luke couldn’t be here with us. He’d have loved sitting her making fun of us for actually going together,” Decklan laughed slightly.

“I know, he would have told us he told us so like a million times.”

Luke always thought that our constant fighting was a cover up for our secret relationship. He said that if we weren’t already together, then we would end up together.

“It’s like I can just see him smirking from across the table,” he laughed.

          “I know,” I agreed.

“Did you know that he actually talked to me about dating you? He told me that if I ever broke your heart he was going to fuck my face up,” Decklan laughed.

          “That’s hilarious,” I laughed.

“Yeah, I know. Like I’d ever be able to hurt you like that,” he said. I didn’t get to ask him what he meant by that because our food came. It was delicious, and I wondered what the most expensive thing on the menu tasted like.

After we finished eating, we headed to the school. We had our pictures taken, and started dancing.

The first few songs they played were fast paced and catchy. They weren’t my favorite genre, but I didn’t expect a high school dance to play indie rock songs. We danced along with Annabel and her date, Andrew Foust.
