Wilson nodded but didn't say anything. I looked at the clock and say that it was only a couple of minutes before 12:00, so I walked leisurely to the break room. I opened the door and saw Axle sitting at a table, his back to me. I shut the door quietly and crept over to Axle.

"Boo!" I yelled in his ear.

"What the hell!" he yelled, jolting a little out of his seat. "Alex, you scared the hell out of me!"

I laughed ludicrously, loving the response I elicited. Though it may have been a peculiar sight, I thought the scene was extremely hilarious.

"You're making a scene, sit down and tell me why you're here and not with your recruit."

I eventually stopped laughing to sit down and take a breath. Axle was looking at me like I was some maniacal crazy person.

      "Are you done?"

"Yes, yes. I just switched Wilson break around to now for today. Everything will go back to the normal schedule of things tomorrow. Just wanted to spend some time with you. I haven't seen you in a while because of the new recruits."

     "Well, thanks. I've missed you."

"Your kid seemed to do well today," I said, grabbing the small iPad that was in the middle of the table. "Do you want anything?"

"Just a Sprite. Yeah, that was the one time he actually tried to do something. I'm telling you, this kid is going to fail and then get offed; you know how clear that is in the rulebook."

"Just be a bit more stern with him. Plus you need to remember, that in mine and Mr. Poli's announcement, we weren't very explicit about that part."

"Your speeches are too laconic for the kids to even listen. You need to have a more charismatic speech like Poli's."

I snorted. "I don't want to be anything like him. You know that, and you know what he did."

"Fine. Your speech was pretty assiduous."

"Yeah, but he gets unnerved pretty easily."

"Well, look at him. I don't understand why he was picked. There was nothing wrong with his family. He lived the normal, apple pie, white picket fence type of life. That's nothing like what is normally picked."

"I know. I thought it was weird when I got his file." I looked at the clock and frowned a little. "It's almost 1:00, I should be getting back."

"It was nice talking to you."

"Ditto." I said and walked out of the room, a small smile on my face.
