A Catastrophe

Tohru Adachi was a man you would rarely find not just in Inaba, but perhaps the rest of the world. He never cared about life or death or even the consequences towards his actions...and at some points he would just wish that the shadows would take over this world. But of course he would have to wait for a very long time now, would he?

3 years later, he was released from the authority. As he began packing everything that he could take, a note appeared on the floor--It was from Dojima-san.

Hey Adachi,

I understand you may not wanna be outta the bars soon, especially with the whole TV murder fiasco. But since you have nowhere else to go, I'll always be happy to let you stay at my place.

-- Ryotaro Dojima

"That b*stard." Adachi sighed with a smirk. "You never learn, do you?" He left it on the table and proceeded to exit his cell and then the station.

It was raining heavily outside. Geez. Was this a bad time to leave? He thought. Then one of the guards came up to him with a clear umbrella.

"Here." The guard said with a grunt. "You'll obviously need this."

But Adachi didn't respond. Not even a "thanks" could come out of his mouth.

"So, where're you headin' to?"

"....Probably a hotel nearby." Adachi said quietly. Home was out of the question.

"Sounds good to me." And with that the guard went back into the station, leaving the ex-cop to walk quietly across the rain.

Or maybe in a far away country, He continued thinking. Where people won't know that I exist. Right when he took his first step onto the black pavement, car were zooming by, splashing water onto the poor Adachi. He took a huge sigh, believing that this was nothing considering that he was criminal trash.

But as he continued walking, little did he notice a huge truck was driving up to him; honking harshly causing Adachi to get startled. Seeing the situation he was in, he had no means of escape. He just stood still like a statue and then...BAM! Everything went all white, he felt numb and cold...Is this what death feels like? He thought as he gave a half-hearted smile. Then everything went from white to pitch black.

It was all silence until a voice broke through. "Oh, you poor creature." said an elderly voice. "You still have been turning away from what you truly wanted, have you?" Adachi couldn't feel anything except...someone touching him. "But I am sure you will learn soon enough...in time"

Then, Adachi's eyes flashed wide opened with yellow and black. He appeared to be in a box with a beige blanket. The first thing that popped into his mind was, "Is this a dream?"

Something else didn't feel right. The appendages of his legs, knees, and feet felt like they were squished together. His stomach felt like it shrunk incredibly and it felt like more legs were added as a replacement of his arms.

When he took a look at his body, what he saw was quite astonishing and yet devastating. He turned out to be a black cat. At fist he was speechless, he didn't know how to react. Then, as depressed as he always was, he gave a heavy sigh. "So this is what I get for being a criminal trash, huh?" he meowed. "Figures."

But just as he was about to sleep, he heard a small voice. "Aw, you poor kitty." He looked up to see Nanako, one of his victims from the incident years ago. She looked a bit more older and had the elementary school attire.

Nanako, being the young and good samaritan girl that she was, bent down to pet the now cat Adachi as a sign of empathy. It oddly felt nice, being comforted by someone. "I bet someone abandoned you, didn't they?" She then put her umbrella and slowly picked up the box that was carrying Adachi and took him to her home.

As they got inside, Nanako tripped on the carpet, about to drop both the box and most importantly the cat. But Adachi, the quick-minded being he was, leaped out of the box and landed perfectly on his own two feet.

"Hey, wait up!" Nanako shouted, attempting to get up. But the cat ignored her and proceeded onto the couch. "This is so comfy." He meowed snuggling onto the warm pillow. "But it kinda smells like Dojima was there. Oh well. "

As Nanako closed the door, she then grabbed the remote that was sitting on the table to turn on the TV.

"The rain will continue from Sunday to Thursday." the news reporter said.

"No wonder school's out." Nanako said with a sigh.

"Next story;" the news reporter continued. "There was an accident right near the police station. A food delivery truck was making its way to the supermarket, when out of nowhere, it collided with an unknown person."

"I tried to pull the brakes;" The truck delivery guy on the TV exclaimed. "but the rain wouldn't let me stop. Suddenly, I crashed near him. And then when I was calling the police, he disappeared like right out of nowhere."

"How tragic." Adachi purred as he lifted his head and then laid back onto the pillow. "Not like I care." However there was a sinking feeling that Nanako would one day, if possible, kick him out of the house--the house that he was always accustomed to, especially on rainy days.

"After interrogation;" the news reporter explained as there was a picture of Adachi on the screen. "the authorities confirmed the victim to be none other than Tohru Adachi, a former cop that was responsible for the homicidal case 3 years ago."

"Adachi..." Nanako said aloud, then a realization popped into her mind. "Oh, you must be starving! I should go make you some food! Wait here!" She then raced to the fridge to grab some meat and vegetables, which caused Adachi's head and ears to perk up. He then saw a bright green cabbage sitting on the table along with the rest of the vegetables.

"Cabbage!" He meowed aloud. "And it's got my name on it!" His eyes were brightened in amazement and mouth slightly watered in lust.

Adachi hopped down and headed straight towards the table, hoping to get a bite of that delicious cabbage. Nanako could hear the cat hopping from the chair to the table. "Oh, well that was fast!" She said with a giggle. "I guess you really are hungry." But Adachi didn't hear, his eyes were fixated onto that delicious green cabbage that was sitting in front of him.

His mouth began to open as wide as a golf ball as he sunk his teeth onto his prey. He used his claws to firmly grasp it. He hadn't eaten in days, so it was not a matter of mannerism or taking it slow... all it mattered was eating the cabbage.

"Hey!" Nanako remarked as she saw him eat the vegetables. "Don't eat that!" But when she tried to get it away from him, the cat hissed as he waved his claws to deter her. "Back off!" He hissed as his ears lowered in anger. "You're a b**** and a wh***! And this cabbage hates you too!"

Suddenly, as his foot was on the edge of the table, he started to fall along with the cabbage. "Are you okay?" She walked towards him and all she could see was Adachi being territorial with his lettuce. She then huffed, "I was gonna give you some food, but since you like that cabbage so much, I guess that's fine too."

And with that, she put away the rest of the food one by one, allowing the cat himself to spend some quality time with his one true love...a cabbage. "Maybe staying here won't be so bad." He purred through his eating. But as he said that a contradictory struck his mind.

After a few hours of eating the cabbage, he collapsed in bliss. Normally he would eat the whole thing as a human, but this was different. Instead, he ate only half of what was left of it and then save it for another time. He then drifted to sleep with little to no regards of the cabbage leaves lying on the floor.
