I turned around towards the door so fast, I got a little nauseous. When I was able to focus, I saw a girl with long blonde hair, which was in a pony tail like mine. This was the scientist Vieanna Blake, and she found out our plan, and caught us red handed. "V! There you are, I've been looking everywhere for you! Did you clear the way out?" Simon said, sounding very excited. "I did, but when I got back to Cassie's cell she was gone. That was a very stupid thing you did, breaking out. You could have gotten yourself killed." She said, looking very distrustful the entire time. "Well I couldn't exactly sit there and do nothing. I had a mission to do when I came up here, and I wasn't about to let the government keep me from doing it." I said to her. "I like your fire. There is something you should know before we move forward. A group of four people tried to come into the facility, all looking like they were from your area. Two of them were captured and killed. The two who were absolutely necessary, were kept alive. Just like you all. Their ID's said: Millie, Jacob, Marshall, and Donnie." Vieanna told me. "Which ones were killed? Who are the ones that you deemed import-" "Hold on, V. You never told me about any of that." Simon said. "It was need to know, and you didn't until now. As for the deaths, Marshall and Donnie are in the morgue, Millie and Jacob are in the prison infirmary."
Marshall and Donnie. Both of them were dead. How could I ever tell Carter that his dad was dead? How could I ever say that I was careless enough not to check and see that they were okay before running off on a hunch that someone might know how to help? I could have made sure they were back before I went to the town.
"Cassie? Cassie! Hey! Are you okay? Can you hear me?" Simon was yelling at me. "Yeah, yeah I'm fine. I'll be fine. Just shocked I guess."
"Cassie, honey. It's not your fault. They knew the risks of coming up here." Dad said to me. "Can you get us to the infirmary?" He asked Vieanna. "I could get down there and find them and bring them back to a cell. I don't think anyone should go anywhere in big groups. They already know someone is going to try to break you all out, they just aren't sure who it's going to be. I'm thinking Simon can go commandeer a Hummer, and Cassie and I can take half of you out each, like you're prisoners, and put you in the Hummer. Once you're all in the Hummer, you can go to your secret place, and go home. Come back here in a week exactly, that's when you'll be able to get Millie and Jacob, and that is when they will be moved. If anything changes about the dates I can let you know through the radio."
"It's a good plan and should succeed, but Millie's family is already going to have to mourn the loss of a father and husband. Do they really have to be on edge for an entire week because we didn't want to do the hard thing and get her out at the same time?" My dad said to her.
"We could try, but I can't guarantee anything for you." Said Vieanna. "That's fine. We won't leave here with two men down. We won't leave anyone behind." I said, "Let's go. We need to hurry up with this."
We waited until Simon had been gone for a while, and then Vieanna went outside with my dad and Lisa. After they had been gone for a few minutes, I led Sammy and Bella through the hallways the way that Vieanna and Simon had shown me to the door that Simon was supposed to be waiting outside of. On the way there, we were supposed to grab weapons and bring them to the car, while Vieanna's group was to grab some food from the cafeteria. We went into the weapon's vault, (The code for it was the fourth on the list.) and we took the guns with which all of us had been fitted, along with the throwing knives. I also took a bow and quiver for myself, and filled the quiver with two quiver's worth of arrows. After putting the weapons in a duffel bag, we walked the rest of the way to the door which led to the car. Once there, I let the two of them go into the back seat of the Hummer. It had three rows. In the back was Lisa, Diana, and my dad. I put Sammy and Bella in the middle row and then took the duffel bag to the trunk. "You know, you and Vieanna could be twins. You look just alike. It's the same with you two and Bella if she weren't a brunette." Simon said to me while I was shutting the trunk door. "I don't know about it." I replied, "Let's just get Millie and Jacob in here so that we can go."
"There's a problem. How will all ten of us fit into an eight seat car?" Vieanna asked. "What if we have an armed escort? Vieanna can drive, I'll sit in the passenger's seat, we can put the two wounded in the back with Diana to look after them, Lisa, Bella, and dad can sit in the middle row. We can drive slow enough for Simon and Sammy to walk beside us with their uniforms and guns. it'll look like just any other government transfer." Was my reply to her. She mulled over this idea and then nodded. "Let's situate these ones first, then we'll go get the others. Simon can watch the car and Sammy can get dressed in the back." She said. We all agreed and set to work. We moved Diana to the passenger's seat for the time being, put dad, Bella, and Lisa in the middle, and let Sammy put on his uniform in the back. We left Simon to guard the car, and set off to the infirmary. It seemed like we had walked for half an hour, but when I looked at the clock only two minutes had passed. "They should be in here. You stand watch while I go get them." She said. I nodded and let her go in and get my friends. When she came out, Millie was on a gurney and Jacob was restrained to it. I took Jacobs chain and led him behind Vieanna and Millie.
"What are you two doing?" Someone said. Vieanna and I turned to see a man in his middle thirties, wearing a set of nurses scrubs and gloves. "We've been ordered to move these two prisoners to the capitol prison infirmary in Memphis." Vieanna said, while I kept my head down. "Doctor Blake, who is this?" The man asked. "This is Doctor Williams. She works at the prison they are being sent to, and traveled all the way from the new capitol to here. I would imagine she wants to get back before dark, so we really should get on with it." She told him. "Yes, indeed. I was at the capitol prison in Nashville and got transferred when it changed to Memphis." I said in my best country belle accent. The man nodded, "Right, I apologize doctor, I just hadn't realized they had been transferred already." He walked into the infirmary. We went on our way. Once outside, we didn't dare talk until everyone was situated in the car, Simon and Sammy were outside with their guns, and we were on the move.
"You can't go back there. They'll figure out that you helped fugitives escape and you'll be killed!" I said to Vieanna. "No, she's not going back there. Her and Bella are coming home." My dad said. "Home? What do you mean, 'Home'? My home is down the road just there, and Vieanna's is in that facility." Bella said. "No, there's something you girls should know." My dad said to the three of us. "I already know, you don't have to tell me." Vieanna said. "How long?" Dad asked. "Since I saw the two of them, and you." She replied.
