We sat there in silence listening to the long beep of the machine, crying, and not knowing what to do for a long time. Then something changed. I didn't realize what it was, but there was something beeping In the room. I looked around, and finally my eyes landed on the heart monitor that was hooked up to my mother. It was beeping. Her heart was beating. "Nuno look!" I said. Grandma and Grandpa quickly worked to get the tube out of my mother's throat as her eyes started fluttering. She was awake. Grandpa had everyone leave the room and wait in the hallway so that he could see her condition. He came out of her room, walked over to us, and said, "She'll need some time to recover, I'm not sure how much but hopefully she can go home soon. You all need some rest before tomorrow, so I suggest you go now before I have to pull a 'Doctor's Orders' card." We all laughed or chuckled, nodded, and headed home. "What's happening tomorrow?" I asked Nuno. "You'll find out during the briefing. You were the honest to goodness MVP of the last operation, so I want you to lead the next one. But don't you worry about that right now. Let's just get you home and rest up."
