Lucy held her arms open, her face broken into grin as the tears streamed down her face, and in that moment Natsu knew, without a doubt, that wherever Lucy went, he would be home, be safe and loved. Love. Was that what this was? The desire to be with someone through thick and thin, feeling safer when they were beside you, and emptier when they were away?

Natsu could think of the ache he felt when Lucy was not beside him, the physical weight of something holding tight on his heart. Was that longing? Not wanting to be alone and knowing he never would be if she were with him, even if his thoughts ate away at him and the nights were long from nightmares? If longing could hurt and love could heal, then surely this feeling towards Lucy was love. Lucy herself was love.

It was a light touch of his hand to ground him, a soft look when she thought he wasn't looking but he was. His own forehead resting against hers. Smiles, fewer since the battle but still so bright. He wanted to be with her forever, to be the remedy for her own pain and sadness as she was for him.

As he pulled her close, breathing in the fact she was here beside him, he knew one thing.

He held her now, and he would not let her go for all the treasures in the world.
