A.N: I wrote this in  2016 as to reflect what I thought the end of FT might have been like, and how things might have gone down. I hope you enjoy!

Lucy held the pen above the page, those last two words she needed to write haunting her. The End... End. Her mind thought back to Natsu, that last glimpse of him and the smile he sent to her, words mouthed that ached her heart but also gave her joy. He was gone, as was his brother. The war was over. She should be happy, with Erza's new role as the guild master and the restoration of the city nearly done. Yet... without Natsu, something seemed off. Lucy sighed, and glanced over to where Happy was sleeping on her couch, the exceed now staying with her. He too understood the ache in her heart, the pain of not seeing that smile anymore...

"I'll see you again." He had said this when she could still hear him. "I love you." He had said when his words could not be heard, only his expression and mouthed words telling her. She could see his face clearly as he held Zeref's dying form, still picture every little detail from two years ago.

The weeks after losing him had taken a toll on her. The depression she had held off so well came creeping back, holding her away from her friends and sending thoughts through her brain that were better left unknown to her friends, lest they worry more over her. Happy was the one who truly helped get her functioning again, the two working together to fight their grief. He was the one who knew her fears, knew she woke with Natsu's name on her lips and tears in her eyes. Knew that all potentially dangerous objects had been hidden from her at her own request, lest she do something she regret. They were both without the most important person in their lives.

Levy would check in on her, having a hunch something was going on that Lucy would not share. It was she who made sure Lucy had food in the house those first few weeks and that she was at least trying to look after herself. But Lucy could not make Levy give up time to check her now, the blue-haired woman too busy with the twin infants she recently had that the moments she did have to relax she should not spend worrying over her and instead spend with her husband, Gajeel. Lucy was better, mostly. She could manage now.

Gray stopped by as well, the guilt of what he did still gnawing at his heart. He had defeated E.N.D after the demon struck that fatal blow to Zeref, had killed the beast that had been his best friend, only to see the monster return to Natsu, the man. Gray had been the only one to witness what had happened besides her and Happy, the only one who knew the two brothers had just vanished. It was hard for him to look Lucy in the eye, as he still blamed his actions for her emotional distress. She had never blamed him, but he had yet to realize such.

The guest that surprised Lucy most was Freed. He was always quiet during his visits, bringing along tea and a book for her to borrow. The two would sit in some weird silence as they drank their tea and read, though it never felt awkward. Perhaps he best knew the feeling of losing someone you love, though in his case the man he cared for had just barely manage to survive. Laxus was still recovering these two years, though how he would be once fully healed and woken up from the coma he was in was still unknown to them. Lucy appreciated his visits the most, as she knew he gave up seconds by Laxus's side just to make sure she was okay. If she had been in his position, she wasn't sure she would have done the same for him...

The story written in front of Lucy loomed before her, a story of magic and dragons, love, support, and friendship. It was their tale, her and Natsu's. She had written it down as best as she could, writing each antagonizing detail of every job, every battle, until it was like she was reliving it each time. It would be her first published novel, one she hoped would sell big. But unlike her real life tale, the novel she wrote based on it ended happily.

The man returned to the woman he loved, appearing before her in a shimmering light years after the end of the battle. He held his hand out to her with a grin on his face, and asked her if she missed him. The woman wept with joy as the light dimmed and he remained, and she embraced him quickly. The two went on to live happily ever after...

But, this was the real world, and in this world of pain and sadness, Lucy knew her happy days with Natsu were over for good. No fancy words could bring him back, no spell or time travel. He would never return, and she would never forgive herself for not telling him how she felt, how deeply she loved him.

Happy began to stir, and with a sigh, Lucy wrote those last two little words then stood up to make some food. The story was complete, and 'The END' read clearly on her novel...

To her it was the end... but the light that shimmered in the room seconds after the story was finalized may just have been her chance at a new beginning...
