I had just got done cleaning the kitchen when Mrs. Marchesani had turned on her bright blue radio. "

"700 miles Southwest of Cape Verde islands, British cruiser HMS London and destroyer HMS Brilliant intercept German tanker Egerland, another supply ship refueling surface raiders and U-boats in the Atlantic. Egerland is scuttled by her crew (all 94 hands rescued by HMS London and HMS Brilliant). This war makes me sick. I was hoping that a letter came from Robert or Jiovanni. "Did you get the mail?" Mrs. M called me from sitting room.

"No Miss but I'll get now" I ran out to get the mail. I was in a good mood my mother was off from working today. I would not have her down my back today. I open the pink mailbox. Bills, Bills, a letter from Robert! Nothing from Jiovanni in the mail yet. Why do we have to have war? My brothers could be at home going off to college or trying to find a girl to marry! But stupid Hitler has to get his way.

"Miss M I got a letter from Robert!" I ran into the living room, I was so happy. ''clam it down child, don't wake the baby he just went down for nap, now put on a pot of tea and you can read the letter out loud for the both of us honey" I have to give she was strong lady. She was taking it better than my mom about her son being at war. Mama would cry every night and she slaps upside my head if I forgot to say my prayers at night. "The night you don't say them is going be the day he won't come to us! Pray child pray!" She crazy but I won't say that to face.

I put on the pot of tea and went to get milk and the honey. The water was taking its sweet time getting hot, Mrs. M walked into the room with her cat Snowball. "JJ would you like to go dress shopping on Sunday with me, I'm sick of that ugly brown dress you always were around the house." Now don't get me wrong now Mrs. M is not a mean lady she just speaks her mind. "Oh I would say yes but you know mama would kill me if she saw me in anything new."

I said not looking her in the eyes. "You are of age now! She has no right to be slapping you round in the face and taking your money. I and my husband have been talking and we see things we don't like. Julia look at me when I talk to you now child!" Oh, she just called me Julia. "Yes, Miss. I know but she my mama she means well and -" she cut me off.

"Means you well? I think not! I want you to move in with us and we send your mother away to work at the beach house in Cincinnati and you shall stay in Chicago with us. "She put her cat down and snowball ran off. "That's that young lady now pour my tea". Just as I was pouring the tea for the both of us, he walked in the room. "Hey, mama". Hello Pretty girl." He kisses his mother on the side of the face and then pulled me into a big bear hug.

"I missed you JJ," he said softly in my ear. Good thing I'm dark skin or they would have seen me turn red so hard. "Ma is it ok if JJ comes to the game tonight with me and the boys?" he asked. Oh, i hate going out, But that Mrs. M never says any Angelo, so that means I'm going out then." Oh, that would be lovely honey sure." she said. What I just said, she can never say no to him! "I'm sure that would be a good thing, I don't have anything to ware " They both gave a hard look, well guess I'm going to dang football game.
