| SAVING THE DAY |"ILLUSION." Paige said his name with surprise tinging her tone, as if she hadn't believed he would be here. But as soon as the disturbance came to his attention, he was there.
"Hey, doll," the handsome not-superhero smirked, "you miss me?"
Illusion had half a mind to kiss Shade with the way she was looking at him, so relieved, but Allure, the flirtatious killjoy in purple, was quick to turn his attention back to the matter at hand. Back to the Puppeteer who just couldn't seem to leave them alone. Particularly Shade.
"Illusion, Supernova and Mimic will take care of Shade. You go with Smooth, we need to keep the Puppeteer distracted. She may be waiting to spill out that second note but when she does, all hell is going to break loose." Allure informed him.
Oh how Illusion recalled that. He couldn't exactly forget the night in Hysteria the way the clubbers could. He remembered her voice and the way she sang with such dangerous beauty. Captivating, certainly, but more lethal than an assassin's blade.
A blonde girl and a brunette with the same wild curls as Allure came forward, grasping Shade's arms and pulling her into their own. Illusion watched Shade being taken away from him, observing her limp body and exhausted expression.
She must've taken a lot out of herself saving the civilians. Saluting Allure, Illusion ran to catch up with the boy in blue who he was meant to distract the Puppeteer with. "Let's go, Slick."
The boy, a lanky kid with unruly brown hair and light greenish blue eyes, slowed in his sprint to glare at Illusion, as if Illusion had said something offensive. "My super name is Smooth, not Slick."
"Slick would've been better, Slick." Illusion told him as they neared the Puppeteer. She locked gazes with them, looking hardly perturbed they were getting so close. Her red lips parted to sing the second note. "Come on. She can't sing that note."
"Don't you think I know that?" Smooth growled, glancing this way and that as he ran. Finally his gaze locked down on what he wanted. He stopped running completely, abandoning Illusion. "Keep her busy, okay? I'll be right back."
"Wait where are you-" Illusion's words died in his throat as Smooth ripped off a pothole in the middle of the street and threw himself down the hole, to where the water lay. According to Allure and Meld, Smooth had the ability of liquification, not that Illusion really understood what that meant.
He only cared about how it helped them in their fight. Illusion, from his peripheral vision could see Prosper, the guy with luck manipulation- whatever that power was- ushering the crowd away, somewhere safer and preferably out of range of the Puppeteer's siren song. Meld and Allure were helping and Allure's eyes were an electric purple, apparently they did that whenever she used her persuasion.
Illusion continued to run towards the Puppeteer. She was frowning now, seeing he wasn't about to give up, and when they collided that was when all hell broke loose. The Puppeteer didn't sing, no, she just attacked Illusion with all of her might.
Somehow he ended up with his back on the pavement and her hand around his throat, squeezing with dark intent. Her eyes held fury but not murder. So she wasn't going to kill anyone. That was interesting, considering how she talked a big game about it. Perhaps she wasn't fully villainous yet.
