Chapter 2

Pt. 1

Her name is Leila. The female figure standing in front of the large window that extends down to the floor of our apartment. Huge enough to let us view the entire city that we humans built on this once godforsaken planet.

The sun is setting, which creates a bright orange but also yellow glow that adds a brightness to the room that fades the farther it gets from the window, putting me in almost complete darkness considering that I was still at the door. This same light bends around her, silhouetting her beautiful body so that all I see is a black curvy yet slim figure in front of me. A small triangle of lights emits just below what would be her midsection, indicating she had small gap between her thighs.

A curious subject, the body of a woman. No matter how many beautiful adjectives one uses, you can never truly describe the wonder and beauty of it. Breasts that make men fumble over there words, legs that make even the strongest men tremble, Hair that flows freely yet adds so much definition to a woman’s features. Then you have anomalies like thigh gaps, some women have them, some don’t, what could seemingly be thought of as an imperfection tends to have a beauty and sensual nature to it.

These are not the usual thoughts of Shane Rivers. I am soldier, I do not care about what adjectives describe the physical anatomy of a woman. But for some reason when I am in the presence of her…I am not a soldier, I am a lover...a poet. All of a sudden my words have meaning, my thoughts are deeper and my intellect is much greater…I’m smarter around her. And I have no idea why that is.

I take a few steps forward so that now I am also in the light. The closer I get the more the blackness of her silhouette begins to fade and I can see her features. The strands of her long hair are not only visible, but now have color to them. A reddish orange color that hinted at her fiery nature and spicy attitude.

Finally I step behind her and wrap my arms around her waist and bury me head in her neck as her arms reach up and close around my neck. Her fragrance is intoxicating, I find it hard to breathe. Not that I don’t like her scent, I love it, but the very fact that someone as beautiful and amazing as her is in my arms is a bit…overwhelming.

Her skin is so soft, as I run my fingers down her arm in a stroking motion I notice how perfect her skin is; no creases, no imperfections, this girl she is, perfect…maybe too perfect.

She kisses my cheek and says “What’s wrong my love?” Suddenly I come out of my daze and respond “nothing Lay, everything’s perfect. The war is nearly won and I have the girl of my dreams.” It was at that moment that she let go of me and turns around to face me.

She was so beautiful, those brown eyes, and dimples that pierced her cheeks. And in between the eyes and the dimples were two groups of freckles the rested just below her eyes, three red on each cheek. These freckles somehow sprinkled innocence onto her, considering that she was such a feisty and strong willed girl. This brought a bit of cuteness to her, not too much but just the right amount.

“You know I can always tell when something is wrong with you, your aura makes your skin feel cold” she said while looking into my eyes. She knows me so well, I don’t know why I even bother to lie to her anymore. I let out a reluctant sigh as if I’m not going to speak.

Suddenly she grabs my hand and walks me over to the bed where we both take a seat. “Talk to me” she says in her caring yet demanding voice that love so much.

“Alright fine, it’s just. I believe I’m a soldier, you know that. And I believe whole heartedly in this war, but lately I’ve had a lot of questions lately and I just don’t know what is we’re doing out there anymore”

She grabs my face and says “Aww sweetie, that’s just your conscience. You’re confused, even though you’re a soldier, your human nature doesn’t naturally allow you to kill. You’re worried about the lives you’ve taken. But you have to focus on the lives you’ve saved, and how much good you’ve done.” I look at her and smile slightly and reluctantly say “Yeah I guess you’re right”

Then her expression of love and care change to cold and dark as she looks at me with heavy eyes and says “But let this be the last time you question anything about this war. Not only does it make you seem like a traitor, but every time you second guess is a chance for a Euphorian to take your life. You have to be as brutal as they are, and they will Never second guess. Got it?”

I didn’t know what to say or do, I was actually shocked. I have no idea what’s going on. But all my confusion quickly goes away as she kisses me passionately. Suddenly I have forgotten our entire conversation. We lie down as the automatic blinds cover the window placing us in total darkness while the sun sets on this confusing day.
