I think that the reason Mikuni collects dolls is because it was a hobby of his mom's when she was alive. She would have tons and tons of dolls lined up neatly on a shelf. Maybe he collects dolls to feel closer to her even though she's dead.
Maybe the reason he's so attached to Abel is because she used to belong to his mom?
