"Harry hand me that chord." Nick said. We were in the process of setting up or instruments and equipment for our performance for Battle of the Bands. There was a lot of other groups. Probably about 15 total which was a big turnout. Since I was the vocalist I didn’t need to really set up other than help the others. It was a four man band in White Eskimo. Just me, Nick, Haydn, and Will. I gave Nick the chord for his bass and helped Will with his drums. Haydn was already set with his guitar and before we knew it everything was ready to go.

"All bands take a seat in the audience while you wait till you're up. We will start with Vortex up first." The principal said through a megaphone. I took my seat and waited impatiently as the first group performed. They were pretty good, though I didn’t know what the judges were looking for to begin with so I had no clue.

"I don't want to go." I whined. Ali and Katie were dragging me to the auditorium to watch Battle of the Bands.

"You have to! Kyle and Logan are in it and we have to be there for moral support." Ali said.

"Harry's performing there too!" Katie added.

"I know but I just don't want to go." I moaned.

"Why? You two are like an item." I didn’t respond at that. Last night turned everything down hill in my opinion.

"I don't want to go." I repeated. I was pulled into the auditorium and I saw the bands setting up. We waved to Kyle and Logan and the rest of their group and I saw Harry helping his band on the far side of the room.

"All bands take a seat in the audience while you wait till you're up. We will start with Vortex up first." The principal said through a big megaphone. We all got seats as close to the front as possible. There was so many people here to watch along with a bunch of parents who cheered for their kids in the back of the room. I slumped in my seat hoping Harry wouldn’t see me as his group took their seats as well.

Harry's P.O.V

"What's up with you and Victoria?" Nick asked.

"You like her?" Will chimed in. I didn’t want to say anything to them about that. I did like her, a lot in fact. Yesterday when she asked about prom I didn’t want to tell her how I really felt and I think it bothered her a bit at what I told her. I kept quiet and just shrugged.

"Well if you don't want her, I do." Nick said. I gave him a dirty look.

"Dude, she's hot." I looked away and continued to watch the performances. It felt like hours and my hands were getting sweaty and I couldn’t think straight.

"White Eskimo you're on deck." The principal announced. The four of us went backstage to warm up and I was getting really nervous at this point. I kept pacing back and forth anxious to get this over with but at the same time I was really excited.

"Dude, calm down." Hadyn said to me.

"I'm just nervous." I said rubbing my neck.

"We'll be fine. Just hit the notes like we practiced and you'll be okay." I nodded and the band that was just on stage walked off. The stage director told us it was time to go on and I slowly made my way to the stage. I stepped to the microphone and I looked out to the crowd. There was a massive turn out and I saw Victoria with her friends close to the front. Seeing her there made me even more nervous but I sucked it up and started off.

"This song is called All In by Lifehouse." The music began to play and I started to sing. Once I started the chorus I felt better about everything and gave it all I had. I belted the tune out perfectly not missing one beat. I looked at Victoria the whole time and the anxiety went away within time. The song ended and everyone cheered. We waved back to the crowd as we walked off and gave each other high fives.

"Guys that was great!" Haydn said.

"Yes, best performance ever." Nick said.

"I think we got this." Will said.

"Definitely." I said. We all walked back out and listened to the other performances. After the last one finished their performance the principal made an announcement, once again with the megaphone.

"The results will be posted today. I know it's after school and you all want to go home and you may. However if you wish to see who won today, we will announce the winner in about 20 minutes." Everyone stayed in their seats except a handful that left to go home. Hadyn, Nick, Will, and I sat their patiently waiting for the results to come in. Finally, the principal walked on to the stage and took the microphone to announce the winner.

"We first would like to thank all of the bands that came out and tried out for today's event. After hearing all of the performances only one can be declared the winner and also the group that will be performing at prom." My fingers were crossed and my eyes were shut tight.

"The judges and I finally agreed on one group that is the winner of today's competition. The winner of Battle of the Bands is….." I closed them even tighter and I thought they would burst out.

"White Eskimo!" I opened them and we hugged each other before heading up on stage to thank the judges. Everyone got up to leave and I saw Victoria and her group talking in the back as the room started to empty out. The principal gave us a rundown on how things were going to play out and all of us got really excited. He dismissed us and we said goodbye to one another. I sneaked up behind Victoria and whispered in her ear.

"Do I get a congrats?" She jumped at the sound of my voice and turned around and hugged me. She smelled really good and her hug was tight and enjoyable.

"Congratulations!" She said. I shook Kyle and Logan's hand as a sign of sportsmanship before turning my attention back to her.

"Are you excited?" She asked.

"More than you can imagine." I exaggerated. She laughed and I laughed too. I grabbed her hand and we left the school together.

"I didn’t even say goodbye to them." She whined.

"It's okay you'll see them tomorrow." I told her. It was starting to get dark out and the street lights were coming on.

"You guys were really good." She said.

"Thanks. I didn’t think we had a chance." I confessed.

"Oh you guys owned it. No offense to the others but they weren’t as good as you guys. Not even Kyle and Logan's group, don't tell them I said that though." She laughed.

"I promise I won't." We kept walking and stopped her along the sidewalk. She looked at me without saying a word. Hers eyes sparkled in the moonlight.

"You're amazing." I said. She smiled.

"Thank you." She said. I moved in closer to her and caressed her face with my hand. Without thinking I leaned in and kissed her passionately. She was surprised at first, not knowing what to do; but she caught on soon enough.
