Chapter 11
"What?!" Madeline shrieked, rolling off of her stomach so she was sitting on the bed, facing Sam. She tossed her phone to the side. Kanye could wait a few minutes. This was much more important.
After stumbling into their hotel room in some kind of daze, Sam had headed straight for the shower, refusing to answer any questions. Such as, say, why she was covered in mud despite obvious efforts to clean it off.
Sam needed time to think. She could hardly even believe what had just happened- heck, she could hardly even remember what had just happened. She tried to gather her thoughts as she let the hot water rinse the rest of the mud off of her body.
So now, with her wet hair piled on top of her head in a messy bun and dressed in an old tee shirt, Sam flopped face down on her bed after telling Madeline the story of her day.
Which was way more interesting than anything Maddie had done. Even getting Kanye's number seemed kind of dull compared to what had happened to Sam. She would wait until later to tell that story.
Sam nodded as best she could from her position. "That's what he said," she mumbled into her pillow.
Madeline let out a breath. "Oh. My. God. Sam... just... wow."
"I know!" Sam wailed. "What was I supposed to do?"
"Well," Maddie started, before letting out a snort of laughter.
Sam turned her head to the side and glared at her. "This is not funny."
"You could have gone along with it. He's so hot! And a junior."
Groaning, Sam buried her face back in her pillow.
"Oh, come on! It's over now, right? I mean, you could have had a lot of fun with this, but you chose not to and-"
"And what? That's what I really want to know. What now?"
The girls stared at each other for a minute. Madeline's phone vibrated indignantly from the chair where it had landed, but they ignored it. Finally, Sam spoke again. "I mean, it's not like this is some silly crush we're talking about. Except, it probably is, and he's just making a big deal about it, but he said he freaking loved me!"
"And you totally shot him down," Madeline giggled. But Sam still wasn't laughing. Sighing, Maddie tucked her legs underneath her and leaned towards her friend.
"Look," she said. "My advice, honestly, is to just let it be. Let him deal with it. You didn't do anything wrong and you don't owe him anything, especially not your feelings. Don't avoid him, either- that'll just make it really awkward. I'd go with more of a 'pretend it never happend' approach. Or maybe 'he was drunk and I'm the only one who remembers.'"
Sam propped herself up on one elbow. "I guess... that's a good idea. For now, at least. I think I need to get over what he said before I can think about it clearly."
"Absolutely," Madeline agreed. "It only happened earlier today. Give it a little while, and I'm sure you'll hardly remember that he even said anything at all. And then you can decide how you feel."
"How I feel?"
Maddie smiled slyly. "Oh, you know what I mean."

This wasn't good. This really wasn't good, Will thought. In fact, it could turn out really bad if he didn't get Sam to fall in love with him... soon. He had no idea how soon it needed to be, even.
The stupid curse, or prophecy, or whatever the hell it was hadn't failed him so far. The first two problems? Check. Will had done his part, saving both Sam and her puppy. It was up to Sam, now, to make sure he didn't die. Or something. Of course, he was pretty sure that she wanted nothing to do with him anymore.
Way to scare her off.
Now what was he supposed to do? She didn't even like him as a friend, now. At least he'd had that before.
But it was like fate... right? Even he couldn't have messed up so badly that he could change his own fate, and hers too. They pretty much had to fall in love, at some point.
Well, unless he died first because she refused to save him.
Will sighed. She wouldn't be that cruel, would she? Sam seemed like a pretty nice girl. Hopefully nice enought to at least get help if she saw him in grave danger. Yeah, he thought. He would survive. Sam wouldn't just leave him, no matter how freaked out she might be.
But if she didn't save him herself, without help... did that count? Would he get thrown into some dangerous situation again and again until she finally suceeded on her own? There was really no way to tell.
Will was making himself dizzy from all the questions swirling around in his head. This was not the way he had wanted to spend his time in Hawaii.
"Will! Over here!" Alexandra called. His head snapped up to where she and her friends were standing in bikinis with a giant beach ball. The rest of the guys were scattered in between them.
Will hadn't even noticed them get up.
He stood and started to walk over to them.
Okay, focus, he thought, quickly loosing himself in his thoughts. Basically, he needed Sam to like him enough, in one way or another, to save him. Preferably with her own two hands. To start, he needed to earn her trust back. Or at least convince her that he just wanted to be friends.
He couldn't erase what he had already said, but at least he could try and make her forget. Push that memory, which he now realized had probably been incredibly awkward for her, to the back of her mind. He could do it. He just had to work fast.
Before that random old lady showed up again to ruin his life.
