Her head felt heavy, just as heavy as her eyes did in that moment. Green and blue fluttered in her vision, but nothing more than that. It took her a moment to see the bright lights of the afternoon sky and hear the sounds of birds in the trees. It occurred to her then; she was outside.

Evelyn's eyes snapped open, her head spinning around. As she pushed herself up, a pain shivered up her spine from her hip. She screamed, regretting the choice to sit up. A hand covered her mouth, and her head turned.

Evelyn saw a boy, her guard probably. She had only ever been introduced to him, but never had she met him. The boy had dark hair and the most perfect brown eyes. Her skin was lightly tanned, though it seemed as though it had darkened more over the years. He looked like someone she remembered; sort of.

She moved the guard's hand, and wiped a tear away. "Who are you? And where am I? What happened? Where is the Palace? The King? My mother? Why am I injured? Why are you injured?"

The boy kept himself from laughing by looking away. "I shall explain soon Princess. But until then, my name is Kai. We met when we were younger, but you most likely have no memory of that."

Evelyn nodded, turning her head. She remembered the boy's dark hair, and stern eyes. But, she couldn't remember exactly where she had seen them. They seemed too real, too perfect to allow her to think. She coughed.

"Where are we?" Evelyn asked sternly, matching his attitude with her own.

The guard, Kai, stood. "You were attacked Princess. A little way away is a safe house that the King had ordered me to take you. I shall explain the rest when we arrive. "

Evelyn nodded once more, looking at her bandage covered body. She could see blood painting itself through the soft fabric, and she could feel twisted bones. She felt as though her whole body was on fire; like at any moment she was going to burn up. The feeling was not the most pleasant.

She tried to pick herself up, struggling to even move her hands. Evelyn let out a growl of defeat, sitting back and letting her hair fall in front of her face.

"Damned bones." She muttered, in the way a Princess should not.

  Kai spun. "Pardon?"

Evelyn smiled as sweetly as possible, trying her best not to be the slightest bit sarcastic. "A little help would be lovely."

"Oh!" Kai panicked, wondering what he should do before Evelyn lifted her arms. "Okay."

The Princess could not walk, and for that; the 'Knight In Shining Armour' would carry her to the safe house. Kai picked her up as politely as possible, and held her like all the fairy tale princes did in the books. Evelyn hand one arm awkwardly placed around his shoulder, and her head tilted away to look for the safe house.

Despite the fact that Evelyn did not need walk, as Kai walked over rocks and fallen trees; she could feel her bones begin to ache. How Evelyn wished to be at home, or at least not 'broken'!

Almost an hour passed once they reached the safe house, and Evelyn was quite surprised Kai had not once stopped walking. He walked through the front doorway and up the stairs. Evelyn could see the intricate patterns in the wood, and the perfectly cut stone bricks. The light from the candle-lit chandeliers shone in the rooms, and danced with the lights from the windows.

Kai walked into one of the bedrooms, placing Evelyn on one of the beds before bowing and beginning to walk away.

Evelyn allowed herself a moment to look out of the windows and the daunting forrest and ever so blue sky. From there she could see the painted walls and sparkling glass gems from the lights. The carpets were soft under her feet after she took off her boots.

"How long are we staying here?" Evelyn asked before Kai could leave the hallway and walk down the stairs.

Kai walked back, but he did not enter the room. "I am not sure Princess. I shall return in an hour, you're going to need to change your bandages."

Evelyn nodded, feeling quite lonely with the boy guard who wouldn't walk through the door. She sighed and allowed herself to slowly fall back onto the pillows.

"Dodo, l'enfant do,"

"L'enfant dormira bien vite"

"Dodo, l'enfant do"

"L'enfant dormira bientôt."

Evelyn sung the beginning of a children's lullaby. And as she finished the first verse, she could hear a chuckle from outside the room.

And suddenly, she wasn't so lonely.
