Mum and dad,
You'll never guess what! I got sorted into Slytherin with Al, and my new friend Charlie Boot, who I met on the train. His dad is Terry Boot, dad. Don't you know him?Anyway; classes start tomorrow so I think I'm going to spend today exploring the castle! I can't wait to meet the professors and start the classes! I'm most excited for Charms, I think!
Write back soon!
Love,
Lily xLily folded the letter up, and gave it to the Potter owl. He was a beautiful tawny owl called Whisper and all three of the Potter children used him. "Mum and dad, please." Lily told him, stroking his wings with her forefinger. Whisper hooted quietly, and flew off, Lily's letter locked in his talons.
Lily smiled, and leaned against a wooden post. It was a stunning day. The sun had risen, and a the sky was a aquamarine blue.
"Hey, Lily." Two voices addressed her. Lily turned and her smile grew. Standing to the left and right of her was Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, both transparent and smiling as well.
"Hey guys." Lily said.
"So, a snake then?" Sirius teased, his eyes glittering.
"Mhm. Second snake in the Potter family now, Sirius." She said, tilting her chin up stubbornly. Remus snorted, lifting his hand up to muffle his laughter. Sirius shook his head, but he was smiling.
"Where's Granda James?" Lily asked, watching as more owls flew into the Owlery, getting their breakfast and hooting softly.
"Watching Harry," Remus said, folding his arms. Lily nodded; of course he was. It was sad how her father couldn't see ghosts because if he could he would see how his parents rarely left his side. Despite Harry not having a chance to know his parents it was obvious they loved him so much.
"Potter watchin'." Sirius agreed seriously. Lily glanced over at Remus who was staring at Sirius in confusion.
"Why did you -?" Remus began, before shaking his head and laughing. Lily looked back at Sirius, who was shrugging.
"I wanted to be involved in the conversation." He said. Remus and Lily burst out laughing, and after a few minutes, Sirius joined in as well.
"Merlin Sirius, sometimes you act like a right idiot." Remus said.
"How dare you, Moony!" Sirius cried, holding his hand over his heart dramatically. "You wound me!"
Lily laughed loudly, breaking up the two men's 'argument'. "You're both idiots."
Remus mimicked Sirius' expression. "I am certainly not an idiot."
"Yes you are, Moony." Sirius nodded.
"Fu-"
"AH!" Sirius yelped, interrupting Remus mid-curse. They both glanced anxiously at Lily, resembling two naughty schoolboys waiting to receive their punishment. Lily chuckled, and rolled her eyes.
"Once a Marauder, always a Marauder?" She teased, echoing James Potter's earlier words. The two males shared a look, and something akin to warmth flashed through their transparent eyes. Nostalgia. Lily looked away, feeling a little out of place.
"How's uh - Teddy, Lils? I haven't visited him in a while." Remus said hesitantly.
"He's good. He's an auror now. Like Dad." Lily responded. Remus nodded sadly, and then forced a smile. Lily felt desperately sorry for him. It must be so hard for Remus, not even being available to see his son grow up. She bit her lip, reaching for his hand but shivering as her hand went through his like smoke.
Ah, ghosts.
"Anyway -" Sirius interrupted. "Any friends yet, lil Lil?"
Lily nodded, glad of the subject change, and launched into a long winded story about the Boot twins.
