Lily awoke to something sharp prodding against her nose. She groaned and pushed the object off her. She opened her eyes, and sighed.

"Whisper." Lily mumbled, rubbing her eyes. The owl hooted quietly, a letter in his beak. Lily ran her fingers through his feathers before taking the letter.

Lily,

Congratulations on being sorted into Slytherin! Your father and I are so proud of you! At least you already know somebody in that house, and I'm sure that Al will do his best to keep an eye out for you.

What are your roommates like? We cannot wait to hear everything. We hope you have a brilliant first day, and say Hello to Neville (sorry Professor Longbottom!) for us!

Lots of love,
Mum and Dad.

Lily smiled, and met Charlie so the two could go down to breakfast.

"Think we'll get our timetables today?" Charlie asked, piling his plate high with croissants and toast. Lily sipped at her cup of tea, hissing softly as it burned her tongue. She nodded.

"Morning kids!" Said a cheerful voice, plonking themselves beside Lily. She turned to see Albus sitting beside her, with Scorpius sat opposite him.

"Hey guys." Lily smiled.

"Sleep well, Lil? Talked to mum and dad yet?" Albus said, pouring himself a cup of coffee.

"Yeah, got their reply back this morning. They're delighted. Apparently they believe you'll 'do your best to keep an eye out for me.'" Lily said, doing air quotation marks around 'do your best'. Albus snorted.

"Yeah, right. You're on your own, Lil. I don't even know you." He teased.

"Sure, sure," Lily laughed. "Anyways, this is Charlie Boot."

Charlie looked up from his plate and smiled awkwardly. Albus and Scorpius were quick to introduce themselves.

"My idiotic brother, and his equally idiotic friend." Lily said, as way of introducing Albus and Scorpius.

"Oi!" Albus and Scorpius said simultaneously. Charlie and Lily burst out laughing at the twin looks of hurt on their faces.

"Ignore her." Albus told Charlie.

Breakfast passed easily enough. Lily poured herself another cup of tea, and wondered if she could convince James to lend her their dads cloak for the day. It would make exploring the castle more interesting, at least.

"Morning, Slytherin." She glanced over, and there sat in the empty seat across from her was her grandfather, James Potter. She smiled slightly at him, and mouthed 'hey' back.

Thankfully Albus, Scorpius and Charlie (the three had gotten surprisingly close in the last ten minutes) were arguing about Quidditch.

"Enjoying your first morning in Hogwarts?" James continued. Lily nodded.

"Merlin, I'm bored." James sighed, glancing down it. Lily held back a laugh.

"When aren't you bored?" Another voice argued, this time feminine. Lily spotted her namesake Lily Potter (nee Evans) standing behind James, her arms folded.

"When I'm with you, my beautiful wife!"

"Hmph."

Lily rolled her eyes and left the two to it. Their arguments never lasted long, but she didn't want to be seen laughing at nothing (which had happened before).

"Hey! The newest Slytherin arises!" James Sirius Potter yelled, falling into the seat in front of Lily, and grinning widely. "Those Snakes haven't killed you yet then, Lils?"
