I drove to the hospital, with mother sitting in the passenger seat. It was a usual routine, hospital at 4pm every Sunday for mom's therapy. She couldn't drive anymore, resigned from her job and stopped doing the house chorus because her body would never stop shaking.
Two years after dad left, mom stopped talking about him, like she was trying to forget that he even existed, and that's when I noticed her body quivering. I was young at that time, just about to turn sixteen but I took most of the burden over myself. She resigned from her job, right when I turned seventeen.
For two ears, I hoped that dad would return someday, my heart would flutter every time someone was at the door but he never came he just left and never looked back. I doubted that he was even alive by now. But what mattered the most to me now was mom's health. She was all that I had now, besides Olivia, who had been with me since we were toddlers.
The therapy lasted for about 2 hours and then I drove home, doctors had given up on her state and most of my money was spent on her medicines and therapy sessions, but I still took her to the hospital with the little hope that I was left with.
Olivia was quick to open the front door, before I inserted the key upon our arrival from the hospital. She was blonde unlike me, and attractive. She was a kind of a kind who would grab every walking by guy's attention, with her sharp features and curves. And the bonus; she had the most sultry smile.
She helped me take my mother to bed and tug her into the blanket before we returned to my room. Most of the time she slept at my place now. She even had a temporary bed made of blankets on my floor. Her mother was nice enough to let her stay, I was thankful to Olivia and her mother for being right beside me throughout the whole crisis that I had to face. They even gave me loan to support myself that I still haven't returned. But being platonic, they never asked for it.
"How was her therapy session", Olivia asked as she made herself comfortable on my bed.
"Same old, same old", I replied in a monotone, fiddling with my mobile charger, as I leaned against the door.
"Why don't you try some other hospital?"
"This is the cheapest one", I replied embarrassed, knowing the fact that she will again offer me her money.
"I will pay for it, Eve. How many times my mother has to tell you not to worry about the money?"
"I have already taken too much from you, Olivia. Please don't make it any more embarrassing for me. I still haven't returned the money that you loaned me. I don't want any more burden"
"Who said that it was a loan, Eve?"
I stayed quite, not trusting myself to answer to that question. I was desperate for money at the moment but I won't be taking a single penny from Olivia now, I was sure of it.
And once again I was taken back to the day, when my father left, I still hadn't told a soul about it. But now after four years, it was past, it was something that the world should probably know by now. If my father really loved us, he would have found a way to come back to us by now. But he never did.
"Olivia", I said, my voice breaking, as I still contemplated telling her the truth. She was trustable, and I was sure of it that she wouldn't tell a soul about it.
She sat upright at my breaking voice and asked, "Yes?"
"Four years ago, when my father left, he didn't leave, he was taken forcefully. Abducted. And I witnessed the whole thing"
And so I told her about everything that I heard, about their conversation, about the mafia. She listened to everything I said, only nodding to let me know that she understood and asking me small questions. But mostly she listened with concentration, like she was trying to contemplate something.
"Oh God, Eve. You have been through so much", She whispered with tears in her eyes as she opened her arms for me. I walked over to the bed and hugged her, sobbing slightly into her wool sweater. We stayed like that for God knows how long until we fell into oblivion.
