Ava sat in front of the monitor in the jet, watching the news reports as Okoye acted as pilot. T'Challa, dressed as Black Panther, stood behind her, arms crossed as he viewed the report with his helmet in his hands.
"The tiny nation of Wakanda is mourning the death of its monarch, King T'Chaka. The beloved ruler was one of many confirmed dead after a terrorist attack at the United Nations a week ago..."
Ava sighed and crossed her arms as she listened. The story was a week old already. They had buried King T'Chaka yesterday, and tomorrow would be T'Challa's ceremony to become King. Of course, they were now on a mission to bring home Nakia, the woman T'Challa had been in love with for years now, so she could be present for the ceremony.
"The suspect has since been apprehended. Though it remains one of the poorest countries in the world, fortified by mountain ranges, and an impenetrable rainforest, Wakanda does not engage in international trade or accept aid."
Yeah, because the world didn't know who they really were. If anything, they were the richest country in the world. Ava scoffed silently.
"The succession of the throne is expected to fall to the oldest of the king's two children, Prince T'Challa."
"My prince." Okoye alerted from her position in the pilot's chair. T'Challa and Ava turned their heads to look over at her as she stood and reached for her vibranium spear. "Coming up on them now."
"No need Okoye." T'Challa said, picking up his helmet. "I can handle this myself. I will get Nakia out as quickly as possible."
Ava chuckled as she stood, crossing her arms at him and arching a brow. She shared a knowing glance with Okoye, who too smirked in amusement. "Just don't freeze when you see her." Ava warned him.
"What are you talking about?" He looked at her, smirking a little as he put on his helmet. "I never freeze."
Ava scoffed and went to the control panel as Okoye manuvered the jet over the vehicles as they needed it to be. Ava pressed the button to open up the airlock so T'Challa could jump out as they approached in stealth mode. Once he was out of the jet, she looked to Okoye with a giggle and a knowing smile.
"He will freeze." Okoye grinned at her. "He always does."
The men in the trucks on the ground grunted in frustration, their vehicles being stopped suddenly and nearly pushed off the road by something unknown. What they didn't know, was that it was Wakandan tech developed by Shuri, the EMP Beads had shut off their engines.
The drivers of the trucks got out of their seats, armed with rifles as they came together to speak.
"What happened?"
"Our engines failed."
"Ours too."
The first man to speak looked around in the treeline on each side of the road, his eyes narrowing suspiciously as he peered into the dark. "What is it, captain?" Someone asked him.
"Defense positions." The captain ordered. All the men nodded at once and dispersed among the other trucks to pass along the order.
Ava watched on her monitor from the jet as the men scrambled and began screaming and shooting into the air as T'Challa overtook the trucks, attacking the men that shot at him and releasing the hostages being held in one of the trucks, Nakia being one of them.
"Nakia... I..." T'Challa froze when he came face to face with her. Ava grinned and chuckled, shaking her head.
"Okoye, he's freezing." She said. Okoye grinned and grabbed her spear again, going to the open airlock and leaping out to help T'Challa.
