Falling For You

Chapter 1

God I hated waking up early. It's so cold and bitter, but so hot and gross. Mornings were the worst and I didn't think I'd be able to do this for the rest of the school.

I mean, Christ it's only the first day of school and I can't even stand up properly. I manage to get ready somehow, and walk to the train station to wait for Penny.

Penny and I had been best friends since the sixth grade. I know, most people have been best friends for more than just three years like us. But me and Penny had a special bond. We were there for each other when no one else was, no one could ever replace her in my life.

"Em! I missed you"
" I missed you too, Penny. I don't think I can do this being away for the whole summer thing again, it's too much isolation for me."

"Stop using words like isolation, you aren't a dictionary Emmy."

I laughed at Penny and laughed even harder when I realized she wasn't kidding with me. Man I really missed her, it was hard not being with her everyday.

"Okay so Pens, how the hell do we get to school. And please tell me you know
cuz I have absolutely no idea."

When we finally got on the right bus, Penny and I had this awkward silence. It wasn't something that normally happened with us but I didn't feel like talking, and with us, I was always the one talking.

Penny was, she was something else. She was this weird, awkward human being, who didn't talk very much, but then again, who wasn't weird.

I was looking out of the window, when I caught this weird bobbing out of the corner of my eye. It was just a hat and I ignored it. And then a little bit later, the bobbing came back into view. This time my eyes were naturally drawn to who was wearing this hat and all I saw was a head of green hair. Yes, you heard me green. Underneath the green was a boy, probably my age. He was just staring out of the window, occasionally pushing his hat up. I thought it was falling because of the bumpiness.

I realized I was thinking all of this with my mouth open and staring at the boy. Penny snapped me out of my haze.
"Em! What're you staring at? Get up, this is our stop!"

High school was, to say the least, not at all what I expected. It did not look like the movies. It didn't look like people were obviously divided between groups. It looked normal. It felt normal, especially with Penny there, it felt like middle school.

Okay it might have been normal, but damn it was so crowded. Just walking through the halls I tripped over myself and Pen like five times. This was going to take some getting used to.

Somehow, we ended up at the cafeteria and we waited in a very very long line to get our schedules. I had a lot of time to spare so I thought I'd look for green hat. I got on my tippy toes and tried looking over everyone else, which was almost impossible cuz I'm about the size of a dwarf.

I eventually gave up, he was impossible to find. I honestly didn't even know why I was trying so hard. I guess I was just bored.

When I got my schedule and found Penny, we decided we'd figure out where our classes were for tomorrow.

Schedules were so confusing, I don't understand why they don't just put the name of the class on the schedules instead of the code or whatever. It would've my life so much easier.

I didn't even know what I had this semester, all I know is that I have a bunch of letters for my classes.

For a moment, I was really sad thinking about the reality of actually going to high school. Penny may have came with me to school, but our other best friend had gone to a different school. Along with the rest of our friends as well.

Me and Penny were in it together for the long run, and I was okay with that.

But maybe our "high school experience" would be better if we had more friends.
