CHAPTER 1

The day President Gray came to camp to 'rescue' us Reds from camp, I was excited. I thought 'thank God I'm finally getting out of here'. Oh wait I'm ahead of myself. My name's James Cavalier, I'm 16 years old, and when IAAN (a disease which killed most kids 8 to 14 and gave the survivors powers) I was classified as Red, meaning I have control over fire. As a Red, I'm very feared. Anyway, so one morning when I was 14 and my brother Nate was 12, we were sent to school. That day we were sent to Camp Merryweather. Yeah it sounds cheery. Nope. It's in Merryweather, Oklahoma where in the summer it's 82 degrees out and we work in the garden for about 12 hours a day, then in the winter when it's 37 degrees we work in a shack making uniforms and boots for the Psi Special Forces. For the whole two years I was at Merryweather I hated my parents. I resented them and I cursed them. But to Nate, I acted like I still loved them and I told him 'they had a good reason' 'they were protecting us', stuff like that.

That second one may have been true because as far as i've heard,the world went to crap after IAAN. Well after two years at Merryweather, President Gray showed up, he told us that all the Reds were going with him. I was excited that I was free but I realized I had to leave Nate behind. I saw Gray go behind the Tower talking to a Psi officer. I started walking toward the Tower and I heard Gray say "I'll be unstoppable! A whole army of Reds to myself! Project Jamboree is in effect!". I was terrified and pissed at the same time! I realized I had to get out of Merryweather.

I went to Cabin 6 (they put Reds,Yellows,and Oranges closer to the Tower so Calm Control reached us first) and planned my escape with 3 other Reds. At first, they said 'no President Gray is going to take us with him! We'll be safe with him!'. I then told him the conversation he'd had with the Psi officer. Those 3 said we'd need Oranges and Yellows too and anyone else. In all we had 4 Reds including me, 3 Yellows including Nate, 4 Oranges, 3 Blues, and 3 Greens. The Greens made the plan for the Oranges to make the guards well, guard us so the Yellows could take out the gate while the blues picked up huge rocks and doors (with their minds) and threw them at any guards who tried to stop us, while the Reds and I lit fire behind us to make sure they didn't follow us.This whole time the Greens walked behind us.

We stole 2 huge psi special forces armored jeeps and drove off. The Psi started shooting at us and the Reds did the natural thing and shot fire at them.

The Yellows started them up and we hit full speed toward the horizon. "Hold on" Nate said. "What"? "There could be trackers in the cars." "Damn" I said.
