Victoria Carter woke up to hear her daughter muttering to herself via the baby monitor. At a quick glance at her husband, Nathan, sleeping beside her, Victoria sat up and sleepily moved around the bed to the door. She stumbled down the landing into the next bedroom, Aurora's room. Aurora was sat up in her princess styled bed, the pink duvet on the floor and the nightlight glowing blue. Aurora looked up at her mother and Victoria was filled with love. Aurora had her mother's bright blonde hair, so blonde it was the colour of corn. However, she had the light brown tints in her curls that came from Nathan's light brown hair, making Aurora's hair toffee coloured in the lights. Her eyes were big and brown, Nathan's eye colour. She was chubby-cheeked, small for her age of three years and quite smart too.
"Need wee-wee," Aurora said as Victoria scooped up her daughter and kissed her chubby cheek.
"Then go, you silly sausage." Victoria placed Aurora down on the floor and watched her dash out of the room. Smiling, she turned off the nightlight and arranged the bed. When she was done, she could hear squealing. Not the squeals of horror that made Victoria's heart stop but the squeals of delight that made her smile. Victoria grabbed some clean clothes from Aurora's chest of drawers then followed the squeals back into her and Nathan's room. It was a nice change from all the pink. Aurora loved the pink, red and purple theme of her room which was very princessy, something Nathan had done specially for Aurora. However, it always made Victoria feel a bit... Claustrophobic. Her white bedroom with Nathan was, therefore, her comfort zone, white kingsize bed, white chest of drawers, light brown pine floors, ivory coloured wallpaper and big white fluffy rug. Upon the white bed was Nathan who was sitting in his boxers, holding Aurora above his head and pushing her up and down the air like he would weights.
"Alright, that's enough fighting for one day!" Victoria called over Aurora's squeals. Nathan smiled at his wife and placed Aurora on the bed.
"I got woke up by this little monster," Nathan said as Victoria started to undress and redress Aurora who kept fighting to get away.
"Me too," Victoria said, rolling her eyes. Aurora finally allowed herself to get dressed in her yellow and pink sundress with white tights. Meanwhile, Nathan went to the bathroom and came back, dressed for work.
"I'll take Rora down for some breakfast, you get dressed." Nathan kissed her lips softly, then touched her stomach, lightly. He then scooped up Aurora and they went downstairs together. Victoria smiled, placing a hand where Nathan had touched her stomach. Victoria was four months pregnant and was in love, surrounded by love from her little family. She dressed in a white summer dress, that came to her knees, brushed her blonde hair and joined Aurora and Nathan in the kitchen. Aurora was in her chair, boosted up to the kitchen table level by her plastic booster seat. Nathan had strapped her in and given her the plastic plate reserved especially for Rora upon which was triangles of buttered toast. She also had a cup of cold milk. Next to Aurora was a plate of buttered toast and a cup of coffee reserved for Victoria. Nathan was at the counter, making himself a flask of coffee. Victoria sat with Aurora and watched her husband as he picked up his car keys.
"I love you," Nathan said as he snagged a bite of Victoria's toast.
"I love you, Nath."
"Take care of my babe and babies."
"Always do." They kissed then Nathan kissed Aurora's hair and left. Victoria looked around the kitchen. It was a modern kitchen with its modern black and grey-streaked tiles, white floor, grey marble countertops and the double-sided breakfast bar with white stools. They sat at their wooden kitchen table in the middle of the room, a table that was out of place in the kitchen but a way to allow Aurora to sit safely at the table with them. Victoria turned her attention to Rora now. Aurora was tucking into her toast, her cheeks streaked with butter. Victoria rolled her eyes.
