Chapter 2.
It was that kind of morning where it seems everything good made the morning. These kinds or mornings are,at best, warm, soothing to the body and has one's best interests at heart. The mornings come as though it was customized for you. It was the kind Kd aid down in after the dose of whites. She was floating, her consciousness was unconscious, her senses on a temporary vacation. She was too taken to remember the first law of playing pretense ; Closing the door. Inna, her Grandma, who hasn't seen her for a while came walking in gingerly. She saw how tattered the room was and saw how Kd was in tatters.
"Wayyo Kd. Is this how you'll take care of Amir when you get married?"
Inna has, like every other "old" person, this immaculate ability to link every mundane thing to marriage. An accidental spillage of milk will be followed by a "Your-husband-will-have-to-buy-loads". Boys can't stay out with friends without getting the " Is-this-how-you-will-abandon-her" stick. Nobody told them of adjustments...The girl, floated, high, still cursed under her breath. That someone, without any inkling as to what level their consciousness is,still recognizes, not by sight but by listening, the name of a perceived enemy, says a lot about the level the enmity has gotten to. Inna didn't hear the curse. She tried to raise her to a comfortable position but did as much as lifting a strand of her hair. Her legs vibrated in defeat and her breathe ceased a bit as she insisted on trying. Her frail figure almost cracked at her efforts and she sat to catch her breathe. She looked around her and started to "touch-identify things around. He hands moved slowly until it got to the place where the "whites" rested. In her floated state, she didn't to much of a covering. She just covered with a duvet that exposes what it covers with as little as a lift
"Lalacin ya kai matsayin da har hoda ma kan tebur ake sawa. Wai saboda kar ta sha wahalan daukan rubbern" ( Her laziness is so big that she feels that spreading powder on the surface will save her the stress of reaching for the powder when she needs it). Bari. I think there's still strength in my body. Let me arrange this. She will be pleasantly surprised. "
Inna moved around. She tried to gather the "whites" she mistook for Talcum powder into a heap. She noticed that the "whites" doesn't smell as nice as the one she knows. She brought it close to her nose and sniffed it in. She stared to the heavens for a while. Everything appeared calm until she saw or started seeing liquid milk dripping from a bulb in the heavens. She started to turn a bit, mumbling some things, thinking she is singing an Indian song. She tried a sharp turn and landed on a sofa. She started to yap on why the plane was wasting her time and how she needed to be in her farm in the next few hours. Luckily, the pilot took off. She fell asleep.
It was evening and no sight of Kd and Inna. Her dad, worried, enquired about their whereabouts and wellbeing from everyone. No one knew or had an idea where they were. He decided to check her room and came to see both of them sleeping. He wondered what bug bit them. He proceeded to waking Kd up and she did. The effect of what she had was gone. She was surprised to see her dad in her room, more surprised at seeing her Grandma, sleeping on the sofa and most surprised that it was evening. She greeted and used her 7th sense to cover the perimeter covered by the whites.
"What kind of sleep is this?" He asked.
"I was tired... Sorry"
"So Inna now sleeps in your room?"
"I sincerely don't know how she came in"
"OK. Just get washed up and do things you ought to have done. I'll take her to her room. Seems she is really enjoying the sleep.".
" Thank you daddy.. I think so too"
He made to carry her. She was close to being lifeless and didn't eben move. That he was worried would be taking a shine out of the expression. He asked loudly,no one In particular
"...but when did Hajia become so sleepy? Someone that gets up at the slightest of noises.. Are you sure everything is okay? " He asked facing kd this time.
"Ye-e-es" she stammered.
He turned to carry on his shoulder. As he was in it,she "Mudi-ed" repeatedly. When he couldn't as much as bear it anymore, he asked who Mudi was..
"Tailor.."
"Hajia what do you want a tailor for? We buy the best of clothes!"
"I want him to buld my house"
" House? Where?
He was dumbfounded. What's with this new attitude? His mum has never behaved like this. Kd on the other hand knew what led to that. She was able to stitch the "whites" on the floor,Inna sleeping lazily and the directionless talks. She was shivering where she stood. Balls of sweat made music and danced to them in her armpit. Her secret(s) was about to leak. Her life was withering away...under her very eyes. Her dad still stood where he was. He tried to connect the dots and nothing made sense. He said nothing and made sure of not looking at Kd. Inna's room wasn't too far away.
"May be she is stressed. I mean, who knows?" He said to himself.
Kd was relieved. She heaved a sigh and sunk to her niece. She quickly started to sort things out. Her room was mess personified. She arranged where necessary, dusted, scrubbed and cleaned. The " whites "was carefully packaged and tucked back to where it came from. She remembered food while she was showering. The quantity of food she consumed surprised her and everyone. Nothing extraordinary happened after. She talked with her siblings, trying hard to find a balance between laughing and planning evil and boy,did she.
