Chapter 6 cont

True to the words,Amir went blank. He slalomed through the chair,leaving his weight below,and landed heavily on the floor. Abbas and Nasiim acted as fast a they could. They were confused at first. The natural instinct of human survival however pinched them into acting. They shouted and made pleas for help. In a while, the whole place was crowded. Amir,this time,has started to regain consciousness. His eyes parted slowly, the distance between his upper and lower lip expanding, his sight was blurry and body weak. He could see people gathered. Some tried to touch him and others even did touch him. Slowly, his senses came back. He was powerless however. He couldn't as much as move a single muscle. He heard the crowd saying "Alhamdulilah an gama( Thank God it is done)" and his heart,in its circumstantial weakness, skipped a beat. He tried to immerse himself into the talks going around by stretching his neck and extending the reach of his eyes. His extension caught a lady. He jumped up with so much power,screaming with incredible degree of energy that left everyone wide faced, mouth opened, shocked and scared. A part of the crowd reversed and took to their heels for this was a sight unheard of.
"For a man who was unconscious minutes ago to magically manufacture strength speaks volume of a higher force... Aljannu ne yaasin( It's a spiritual attack)"

"Kai, what is this again?" Nassiim asked, almost in tears. On the surface, the question captured his mood. Digging deep however, the question he wanted asking was "Why come up with this thing when we aren't done with this one?"

"Calm down my friend" Abbas said assuredly. "You'll be fine. We're with you and are here to help you."

Amir's face betrayed the energy he just emitted few minutes ago. His eyes were opened to the real world and he sunk to his chair,realising how much of a mess he was in and how much a bigger mess his mind was.

"I thought you've finished the wedding! I heard you guys saying " Alhamdulilah an gama( Thank God it is done) I thought you've completed the rites and was about taking your leave! I thought Kd has,true to her words, has gotten married to my dad!"

"But there is no female around. How will a marriage contract happen without the presence of a female?"

"I saw one" he thundered. What surprised many wasn't the action but his passionate defense of the action. "See her there" he pointed at lady who at this time,was a bit far away.

''In ba abunka ba( If hadn't been for this situation), how would a marriage be contracted at night? With all of us on our feet?"

Abbas asked leaving him dejected and not knowing the answer to give. His inability to gibe answers to the numerous questions made the crowd to leave end masse.While at it,someone shouted "Kaje a ma ruqiyya( go for spiritual help)"and a bout of laughter rented the air almost immediately.

Amir sat, supporting his head with his triangle shaped hand formation,wondering what he had gotten himself into. His friends tried to get the best fun the night could give but the taste or a food comes when it hasn't been mixed with outside forces. Amir excused himself and left them. Abbas and Nassim couldn't help but shake their head to 'what is' now. They wondered what trajectory the story of his life would've taken if he hadn't played and neglected his " what was"

Kd's mood was a plethora of activities. Family and friends trooped in to take a look at the soon to be married bride,chiding her and giving her all the help necessary. She appeared happy and cheered them on when they hit her with the "You're getting married to an old man" jokes. She couldn't care less. Her father was the happiest man alive. Everyone treated her like a diamond about to change custody. She has nightmares, only expected after the deal she signed before the marriage happened. She folded in fear, and casted her mind backwards. That she was even able to pull it off showed how desperate she was for vengeance.

"She remembered asking around for a boka(charmer). She remembered asking in hushed tones so as not to raise suspicions. She remembered being directed to a Forest, the very tip of it. She remembered being told to come at night, not later than 11pm for that's where the man is more active. She remembered shuddering in fear but the fire of vengeance burned unquenched. She remembered peptalking herself through it,telling herself not to back down or back out after coming this far. She remembered telling herself to be barave and boy,brave was she. She remembered visiting the Forest after sneaking out of home. The thunderous and monstrous shouts of the charmer after she entered his shrine with her shoes will continue to hunt her for his long she lives. Nothing compares to face. It was like a failed attempt at mosaic. His voice was complimented by a large and empty drum he ravenously caressed. He called her " my daughter " to keep at ease but Kd could feel hairs sprouting out her leg.

"What is it my daughter? Why did you come visiting? "

"I have come to...."

"Eeeeeeeh! " He thundered. The power the voice had made Kd dash outside. She started to scream her mother's name,calling her for comfort. The comfort she sought came from the discomfort she ran away from as the charmer, after noticing her fear and easy-to-break-down nature,decided to shed the element of fear he instilled in his "disciples" (what he calls them!).

"Talk. I can hear you."

"I want a charm. For two men. I only want them to get married to me and nothing more. Apart from the truth they'll always do what I want. That is all I ask"

"Vengeance drives you! " he said.

"Vengeance drives everybody. Why do you think ants gather to stab a cockroach to death?For food, yes but won't the cockroach still eat an ant if it's sees it alone?"

"Your mouth is too good for your fear"

"So they said of the monkey who alerted the lion after seeing a zebra grazing alone. They call it cowardice but I call it being ahead of your peers."

"I'll give you what you want."

"That I know" she replied and continued with "but the question is can I trust you? Can you give me what I want? I want this men to myself. I want whatever and whoever will oppose our union to disappear as soon as they gather the thoughts to."

"Haha" the charmer laughed in syllable. " Mother hen uses her beak to break open an egg that came out of her . Tell me what you think she'll do to the back of a cockroach. Here, call their names."

He said and handed over a piece of red cloth knitted with candle wax and middle. She spent 5 minutes telling. The fire she had burning under wasn't too hard to notice. She handed it back to which he said:

"Often Kangaroos get invited to dance competitions because of their legs. They spend hours and hours rehearsing, forgetting that rest is also very vital. When the time for dancing starts, they realise that they've gone lame! Like I said, your mouth is too big for what you have in fear. A mother doesn't stop the baby from coming out midway into childbirth because she suddenly lost interest. A child that doesn't know the potency of a charm calls it bitter leaf. Like a mortar, yo must bow. You can't collect sweets from a seller and expect not to pay.  Do as you're told. Don't pray for 3 days. Yes all of them. Keep this(he gave her the red cloth) in a place where no one will see. If anyone sees it,you won't go mad. I'm not a dirty charmer. You'll watch everything you've world for crumble before tour very eyes. It is done. You'll need to come renew it at a later date. "

"Thank you " Kd replied.

"Don't ever thank me. Don't make that mistake, ever again. I've given you what you came for. Now,leave!"

Kd made to leave and turned back like she forgot something. "Hunters go into jungles for games with only but Dane guns,bullets, machetes and arrows. That is what we SEE. That is what we SEE." she told him and left. ..."

A badly positioned cup fell and almost sent her into another room. Fear. Fear. She got up and picked the cup. Arranged it very well and went back to sleep. She curled in fear but vengeance was too much to leave...

Amir got home and saw the house bubbling. He asked for his dad and was told that his dad also asked after him. He went to his dad's room and met his dad on the phone. He finished the call and after exchanging pleasantries, told Amir why he asked after him.

"I'm getting a new wife soon"

Amir floated.
