Chapter 27
It was so nice and sunny out today. Dean and I were sitting on the beach. No one else was there.
"Let's go get in the water baby," Dean whispered in my ear. He looked so good today.
"Ok," I said. He stood up and took my hand.
We walked down to the shore. The ivory mist from the water splashing us as the wind blew gently over the water. I loved it here with Dean. It was so peaceful. We walked out into the water; it was just above my waist. Dean stood behind me and wrapped me in his arms. He gently caressed my swollen belly. Whoa, when did I become so pregnant? I don't remember.
"You look so sexy with this big belly," he said.
I looked down at my stomach. I could see the baby kicking. I placed my hand over Deans as we smiled at our active baby. But suddenly the kicks became more painfully. Something was wrong, really wrong.
"Ow. Dean!" I called to him. I buckled over, holding my stomach. The pain was getting worse.
"Oh my God baby, you are bleeding." Dean cried in horror.
I looked down at the water to see it was completely red. What the hell was going on? Am I losing my baby? I wrapped my arms around my belly trying to protect the baby. But it was no use. My swollen stomach began to grow smaller and smaller until it was completely flat. What is happening? Where is my baby? I looked at Dean who had tears rolling down his face.
"Dean what is happening to me!" I cried.
I couldn't stop the tears. I started screaming. I felt so empty. What has happened to our baby?
"Wake up baby." I saw Dean mouthed. But the sound didn't come from him. It came from above. But it was his voice. "Baby please wake up. What is happening to her?" I heard him yell.
"Dean" I cried. I ran to him, but he vanished. "Dean where are you."
"Nicole please wake up." I heard my mother say.
"Mom!"
"Nicole baby please come back to me. I love you." Dean choked out.
I must be dreaming. Maybe if I stand still and stop fighting, I will wake up. I ran out of the water and dropped to my knees. I closed my eyes, wishing this bad dream was over.
"She is opening her eyes. NURSE NURSE. SHE IS WAKING UP." I heard Tracy yell.
I slowly opened my eyes, but everything was so blurry. Am I still dreaming? I blinked a few times, letting my eyes come into focus. There in front of me was the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen.
"Dean," my voice was barely above a whisper.
"Oh thank God baby. Thank God" he cried. His eyes were swollen as if he had been crying.
"Hey, why are you crying?" My throat was dry and scratchy. "Water please."
Dean reached over and grabbed a cup of water that was sitting on the table. He brought the straw up to my lips. I took a slow, long pull and savored the cooling liquid as it slid down my throat. Dean took the cup saying that that was enough for now. I tried to reach up and stroke his face, but I couldn't move much. I looked at my arm and saw an IV in it. What the hell. I tried to sit up but Dean wouldn't let me. It was starting to register that I was in the hospital.
"Lie down Nicole please; you have been through a lot today." Dean kissed my forehead
I didn't try to sit up again. My ribs and back hurt like hell. What in the world happened? Why am I in a hospital? I started to panic. The beat of my heart racing sent the machines haywire. The sound of them beeping made me panic even more. I started to hyperventilate.
