Six and I managed to escape from The Janitor for a while, but our relief ended quickly as he found us again and began chasing us again.
We trapped ourselves in a room with no where to go. The Janitor used his arms to feel around for us and I quickly tried to look for place for Six and I to hide.
There were no hiding places and it looked like a game over for us.
At least that's what I thought until Six courageously ran towards the door and began pulling on one of the bars that were preventing it from closing.
I quickly went over to her and helped her pull on the bar. We pulled and pulled on the bar until it came out and cut off The Janitor's arm.
"Success! Nice thinking, Six!" I praised, making her smile at me. I smiled back, then squeaked in fear and hid behind Six as one of The Janitor's arm began to move.
"Let's go before he finds a way to grow his arms back." I said, tugging her towards the open vent.
"Wow, it's dark in here. How are we supposed to see through this pitch blackness?" I asked. "I've got something that'll help." Six said.
She went into her raincoat pocket and pulled out a lighter, then flicked it on as a small flame was lit. "Smart thinking." I said.
We crawled through the vent for a bit until I began to notice that Six was starting to slow down like she was exhausted.
Without even knowing it, I was beginning to get a little exhausted, too. "Let's rest here and regain our strength." I suggested.
Six was already on it as she pulled her knees to her chest and fell asleep. I sat beside her and went to close my eyes until I spotted Nomes that were crawling through the vent approaching us.
"Is it okay if we stay here with you?" A Nome asked. "Of course." I replied with a smile. They huddled around me and Six, and all of us went to sleep.
After our nap, Six and I began our journey again. I've asked the Nomes who stayed with us to look around and see if they're might me any more monsters around the area.
"Mya, have you always been able to talk to the Nomes?" Six asked. "Not really. I learned to communicate with them. It took me awhile, but it was worth it." I explained.
"How did you get here?"
"I don't know."
"Are there other children like us?"
"Yes, and we were all brought here for a purpose, but what kind? The person behind the kidnapping must have some answers."
"You never told me who this person is? The one who kidnapped us."
"She calls herself The Lady, and she has eyes all over this place. Literally. She's always watching us."
"How do you know her?"
"I managed to catch a glimpse of her. From what I gathered from the Nomes, she's the one in charge of the Maw. But that still doesn't explain why we were brought here."
"Don't worry. I'm sure we'll get our answers soon."
"I hope so."
Six's stomach growled loudly as she began to cough. "Hunger pains again, huh? We better find you some food before you starve to death." I said.
I took her hand and led her down the hallway until we found a rat stuck in a mouse trap. "Poor thing. We should help it." I said.
Six let go of my hand and approached the rat. I thought she was going to help it, but I was wrong when she chomped down on the poor thing and began to eat it.
'Well, at least she's been fed.' I thought. When Six was full, she wiped the blood off her mouth with her raincoat sleeve, then stood to look at me.
"Mya, when was the last time you ate something?" She asked. "Before we met each other for the first time." I answered.
"Then, you should eat, too."
"That's okay. I'm fine."
"But won't you get hunger pains?"
"I don't think so."
"But-"
"I'll eat the next time we find food. Maybe one that isn't from an animal."
'Then again, this is survival. So, it really doesn't matter what you eat now.' I thought.
