I nearly jumped out of my skin the moment I realized what my eyes were perceiving in the dim light. A loud scream escaped my lips and my body trembled like a leaf as I tottered towards Linda's stock-still body.

"Linda." I whispered as I dropped to my knees beside her.

She's not dead ...

She's not dead...

This cannot be...

Tears welled up in my eyes as I shook her violently. I wanted to yell at her to wake up but with her eyes already wide open, there was nothing that gave me the least comfort that there was a chance.

"They'll be here soon. Everything will be fine." I mumbled.

She must have been run over by a vehicle. That was the only logical solution to her state. Her neck I realized a moment later was broken.

But the blood...?

I turned her body over and found a wide gash on the back of her upper arm.

I could hear the siren from the distance but it wasn't the least assuring. It was crystal clear that it was too late and all I could do was sob.

I loathed many of my classmates but never had I ever wished anyone dead, not even Linda who was always a pain in the ass. And now the trivial squabble in the car scarcely a few minutes ago seemed witless and juvenile all of a sudden .

"I'm sorry..." I heard a husky voice from behind me and I jumped to my feet and recoiled in shock.

A tall man stepped out from under the shadow of the trees and I had to blink my eyes several times to peer at his face from underneath my wet lashes .

"I can't help it... " he spoke indistinctly before advancing closer and my heart palpitated against my chest. With my stomach in knots, I hoped feverishly that the man meant no harm .

And then the dim light fell on his face and I felt my mouth go dry.

He had dirty ash blonde hair that fell into his eyes. Eyes that were very familiar. His cheeks were hollow and his lips were too thin and pale like the rest of his exhausted face.

"It's you." I shuddered. "You're...you're real ?!?!!!"

A dozen more questions popped into my head but I tried my best to dispel my fears .

The police will be here in less than a minute...

But....Linda was already dead .DEAD!!!

I never felt the grief of losing a loved one, and Linda was definitely not my favorite person but the harsh truth that I wouldn't be able to see her anymore was simply horrid and unacceptable.

Even if the police were to reach here quickly, she wouldn't wake up.

She wouldn't ever wake up ...

And maybe I wouldn't too if they didn't hurry up...

Those were the last thoughts that circulated in my head before something hit the side of my head and everything went silent as I tumbled into darkness.

I curled to my side, and snuggled closer to the pillow. The scintillating sunlight seeping through the window woke me up from my deep slumber.

Yawning, I sat upright on my bed and stretched myself. My eyes shifted to the clock slowly.

Oops! Not again!
