The Police

Marie wakes up and says "She is dead?" I nod and laugh with relief while saying "Baby you're alive." Marie nods and says "But how is she dead?" I sigh and say "She broke into our room and attacked me. She pulled Rik's knife out on me. I took the knife from her and stabbed her with it." Marie sighs and says "Well at least Nikola will be safe." I sighed and said, "The police are now involved since it was in our room." Marie seemed mad that the police got involved. I looked at Nikola and said "I did it for us okay? I want us to live a normal life." Marie turns over and says "Why the hell would you involve the police?" I sighed and said, "I thought you would be relieved or even happy." Marie said with aggravation "You couldn't just hide her body, could you?"

I stood up and walked to the door and said "Wow Marie. Weren't you the one who wanted her dead in the first place? Or were you just saying that out of spite?" Marie looks at me with red eyes as if she was about to cry. Marie says with a soft voice "If you are going to go...just go already." I walk back to the bed and kiss her. I whisper "Me? Leave you? Never." I kiss her again as she grabs my wrist. She whispers "This is why I love you. No matter what happens between us you always seem to come back to me." I smile and said, "So Nikola?" Marie nods and before she could say anything a police officer knocked on the open door. The man said "Sir may I have a word with you?" I nodded and followed the man out into the hallway. The officer looked at me and said: "I need a statement about what happened at the motel." I gave my statement and went back to Marie's room.

Marie was asleep so I moved the chair next to Nikola's bed. Nikola was asleep, he was so adorable. I looked back at Marie's bed where she was peacefully sleeping. My phone rings and rings and rings. I answer the phone "Hello?" There was a moment of silence then I hear Eric say "Hey bro. I heard the baby was born." I chuckle and say "Come on down here and see Nikola. I think he would love his uncle." I heard Eric laugh and say "Uncle? That makes me sound old." It did make him sound old. I smile and begin to leave her and Nikola's room. Eric and I catch up on what has happened since I left home. Finally, when I get back to the motel I hear Eric say "Well I'm inside your room." I get out of my car after turning the engine off and I go inside my motel room. Eric wasn't lying as I stood at the door and saw Eric sitting on my bed. We both hang up our phones, I walked over to the bed and sat down beside him. 

We sat in silence only to have Eric staring at me with rage. Eric finally sighs and says "What happened to the boy who behaved? The boy who never got into anybody's business unless it was his?" I sigh and said with sadness "Gone. I mean I got tired of being the good boy. I wanted to be something for once in my life Eric." Eric sighed and said "How's Marie?" I looked down with happiness and said: "She is still alive and is coming home tomorrow night." Eric nods and gets up off the bed.  Eric walks towards the door and looks back at me. I look at Eric while he looks at me and shakes his head. Eric says with a calm voice "You better know what you are doing boy." I nod and stand up while saying "Stay." Eric turns around and says with confusion "What?"

I repeat myself and Eric walks back into the room. Eric shuts the door and says "Fine. We do things my way though." I nod but I don't like it when Eric takes control of things.  I laugh and say "Sure." Eric gives me a stern look and says "Don't think this is a joke boy." I couldn't help laugh at Eric because he is shorter than me. I nod and say "I think Marie will love this." Eric rolls his eyes and sighs. I walk towards the door while Eric says "Where do you think you're going?" I sigh and say "The hospital Eric because the last time I checked Marie and my son are there." Eric stands up and walks over to me. I open the door and begin to head towards the car. Eric grabs my arm and says "I'm driving boy." I groan and hand him the keys. 

Eric laughs and starts the engine. I get a text on my phone and Eric says "Who is that?" I sigh and said, "Your imaginary girlfriend thanking me for last night." Eric got mad and said with sarcasm "Ha ha ha jerk."  It was a text from Marie saying "Feeling better. We can leave early." I told Eric the great news and we began to speed towards the hospital. Finally, we reach the hospital and a nurse walks out to the car and hands me Marie's phone. The nurse tears up and says "This was a rare thing to happen..." I gasp and say "What do you mean?" She begins to talk again "Miss Marie died in her sleep. She died due to the loss of blood from giving birth to Nikola. She truly was a sweet girl. Sir, you were lucky to have her." I begin to tear up and say "You're lying because she texted me." I show the nurse the text and the nurse says "After she sent that she passed out and never woke back up." I grab the phone out of her hands and the screen was cracked from being dropped. I say with a shaky voice "Where is Nikola?" Another nurse walks out of the hospital carrying Nikola. Eric steps out of the car and walks over to the nurses. Eric says while getting Nikola out of the nurse's arms "Relax Scott." 

The next thing I know is I wake up in a hospital bed. I look around and Eric is sitting in a chair with a shocked look on his face. He yells "Mom! Dad! He is awake!" They all come running in and mom starts crying. I mumble "Where is my baby?" Eric says "You don't have kids Scott. You're only a sophomore in high school. You were in a coma for the longest time." I sigh and say "What?" Mom nods and dad walks up to me and says "It is true son." I sigh and say "Oh god." I began to cry and i slam my head down into the pillow.
