Johnny's Point of View
"Are you ready to present?" Kate asks once I walk into class.
Honestly, I was kind of nervous. I could barely speak to people one on one, how was I supposed to perform a short play in front of the entire class?
"Yeah," I lie, shooting her a reassuring smile. She smiles back.
The bell rings and Mrs. Peters walks to the front of the classroom after closing the door.
"Good afternoon, class," she begins. "The projects are due today and you will be presenting so I hope you have yours done."
Benny and Kate smile at each other.
"Is there anyone that wants to start us off?" Mrs. Peters questions, looking around at the bored students in class. No one raises their hands. "Okay, I'll choose randomly."
Mrs. Peters picks up her attendance paper and chooses a random name. "Chloe Reynolds."
The person sitting behind me widens their eyes, and Benny smirks.
"We're ready," he informs, looking so proud of himself.
"We are?" Chloe questions.
Benny nods, pulling out a notebook from his backpack and opening to a page. Chloe looks surprised.
Benny and Chloe make their way to the front of the classroom. Before they start, Benny looks at Kate and winks.
I look at Kate with a frown. Did I miss something? Was she lying when she said they weren't dating?
They start the play, and every now and then when I look at Kate, she's mouthing Chloe's lines.
"Did you help him with this or something?" I finally question to her, the confusion and curiosity taking over me.
"Yeah, last night," Kate replies in a hushed voice.
Night? They worked on it together at night time?
Benny and Chloe finish their play a few minutes later.
It was good, especially Chloe's lines. It probably had something to do with the fact that Kate wrote them, and she was good at writing scripts.
The class claps for Benny and Chloe and they sit back down in their desks.
"I think you just got an A," Kate says to Benny.
"Yeah, thanks to you," he responded back.
I hold back the urge to roll my eyes when they high-five.
Mrs. Peters calls another student who luckily isn't us, and they do their play.
-
When there's 15 minutes left of class, there was only one group left and it was Kate and I.
So she smiled at me, taking her notebook out and leading me to the front of the room.
