I felt the worry fill my empty stomach, Malachai was late for his strict visitation that my father permitted. I looked down at the little baby wrapped in a large red and black flannel, I smiled down at the baby and giggled. In that moment, a knock arose in my room and I sighed as the door opened. I rolled my eyes and turned slowly to see my father. Black hair, tanned, brown eyes; absolutely nothing like me. He smiled at me but his eyes shown anything but happiness and joy.
"Mi hija, I see that Malachai has failed to show himself."
He spoke slyly, I rolled my eyes again and glared at him, not letting him say another word.
"He's probably busy covering up your messes, dad. Whatever you've managed to cop up to get rid of Malachai; it won't work. You need to stop being so childish, why can't you expect him? For Christ sake, it's been almost seven months."
My father interrupted me with a loud shout that made me jump in surprise and made the baby in my arms start to choke out small cries.
"That's enough! You won't speak to me like that! You are my daughter, you have no right to speak to me like that! Malachai has limited time here in the Pembrooke and that's how it will stay!"
My father was cut off by a soft 'ahem' at the door. Both my father and I turned to see Malachai leaning on the doorway, staring intently at my father. He slowly pushed off of the door and slinked over, being taller than my father he looked down at him with ease.
"Hello, Mista Lodge."
Malachai said with a sly grin plastered on his face and he brushed passed him making me smile, happy to finally see him. He turned his gaze to me and the baby, immediately lighting up more than before.
"Hey there, Little Monster. Have you been a good boy for your momma?"
He asked the seven month old boy as he scooped the little bundle into his arms and smirked down at him. The baby gurgled and drooled in reply as he smiled back up at Malachai. Of course, my father had to step in on the moment though.
"Who let you into my home?"
He asked forcefully, Malachai didn't even bother to look up while he pushed his finger into the baby's mouth to feel around for teeth.
"The lovely Miss Lodge let me in and I just followed the shouting."
His dark brown eyes darted up for a moment to look at him with a deadly gaze before looking back down at the giggling baby.
"Malachai, I don't think you support little Dorrian as well as you should. You're a father, you should step up."
My father said as he crossed his arms, awaiting Malachai's attention. Malachai scowled and kept toying with Dorrian's mouth.
"Ya' know, Mista Lodge; maybe I'd be able to see and support my son if you'd let me come visit him and your daughter once in awhile instead of sending me off to do your job. All you ever fucking say is that I ain't good enough for her. What do you want me to say? That I regret having my son? Well I don't. You've been filling your own daughter's head with lies of how I don't love her and how I'll never be good to her. Sayin' I'll cheat on her and shit. I love my boy, I take care him the best I can. Every cent I have goes to taking care of him."
He said angrily, as he held Dorrian to his chest protectively. My father's lips pursed and I could practically feel the heat from his body. Before he could say another thing, I stepped in.
"That's it, dad please leave us, okay? Just lay off for now, let Malachai spend his time with Dorrian. If you actually care about your grandson then you'll let him be with his dad."
I said hurriedly, stepping between the two of them. My father looked at the two of us then down at Dorrian before leaving, shutting the door hard. I sighed and turned to Malachai, he looked over at me and smiled as Dorrian made his small little noises. I approached him and looked down at the little boy, his soft black curls that puffed from his pale head. His partial heterochromia reflecting to show the pale blue in his right eye complimenting his dark brown eyes. Malachai smiles down at him and kissed his forehead, I leaned in and pet his gentle head.
"He looks like you, babe."
He said as I felt his rough thumb against my cheek, I leaned into his hand a little before gently pushing his hand away to hold it.
"Hey, careful or you'll get Jingle Jangle on me."
I giggled a bit, he playfully rolled his eyes before leaning in and landing a kiss on my lips. I smiled and held the back of his head, toying with the black fluff of his hair. He reached forward with one hand and started to curl my long bright ginger hair around his finger, moving in close causing Dorrian to be sandwiched between us. Dorrian whined in rebellion, pushing against his father's chest with all his might. Malachai looked down and cocked an eyebrow at his baby look alike, looking into the multicolored eyes of Dorrian.
"Really? I don't get to see your mama much and you have to do this now?"
Malachai asked rhetorically but baby Dorrian had something to say about such sacrilege. The baby glared up at his father with his big eyes and pudgy face. Malachai smirked and chuckled at Dorrian. Malachai leaned in and pressed his lips to mine with his regular roughness much to Dorrian's dismay. He pressed his little hands hard against Malachai's chest again. After Malachai pulled away, he scooped Dorrian up into his arms.
"Now, Little Monster, it's time for you to get tucked in. You need your rest."
He said, swinging Dorrian as he strode to his yellow and blue themed crib, I followed in suit. Smiling down at our young raven haired baby, we covered him in his soft blue blanket and rested him on his stomach, sticking a binkie in his mouth. Stuffed animals littered the soft crib, rattles and a few plastic teething toys laying scattered on the yellow duck patterned mattress.
Malachai chuckled as he gently pet Dorrians soft black mess of curls, making the child slowly fall asleep. Malachai turned to me and grimaced, I looked to him and cocked my head.
"Your dad. He doesn't want us together."
He murmured, letting go of Dorrian's thick gentle black curls. I sighed and ran my fingers through my long red mop of hair. I turned around and hugged myself tightly, saying.
"You're wasting your time on me, Mal. My father is a dangerous man. I don't want you to get hurt, not on my account. What I'm saying is, if you want out then I don't blame you."
I worriedly said, I heard rustling and a few steps before feeling his warmth against my back. I small smile curled at the corners of my mouth as I leaned into him slightly.
"Baby, don't go sayin' that. I love you and I mean that. Besides, you're my baby mama. You're daddy just wants us apart because he can't stand to give you away."
He said his leather gloves hands resting on me hips, I turned and cocked a red eyebrow at him. He smirked and pulled me in close to him.
"Oh? Give me away, huh? You think he has the power to give me to anyone?"
I asked playfully, leaning into him, feeling warmer with him. I close my eyes as I embraced him comfortably. I hoped this would never end.
