The next moment he wasn’t there with me. The boy with whom I’d a memorable dance of my life was gone.
Where? When?My head felt heavy, my hands and legs began shivering with the questions. I couldn’t breath properly. Suddenly, the heavy rain started suffocating me. Pressing both hands against my thumping heart, I looked around myself to find at least one glimpse of disappeared boy.
He wasn’t there. He wasn’t behind bushes. He was nowhere.
“Good bye!”
“Rick, where are you?”
He didn’t reply. One more time I called his name – but he didn’t reply. It scared me. How could one boy disappear so fast? Something was wrong, something was really wrong with Rick.
Rain stopped as train of thoughts began revolving in my mind. There wasn’t an anger in my mind for Rick for leaving me alone in deep place of the town. There wasn’t even a tinge of fear in my heart.
I was anxious. There was something in the air which wasn’t positive. Somebody had lost someone. Somebody had lost its life. I didn’t understand why I was thinking it.
As my feet started moving in the direction of Rick’s house, my heart began hammering against my chest.
Who was Rick? Was he speaking the truth? Where did he go? Why did he say good bye? He must be at his house.
Rick was hiding something from me. He seemed calm and composed – but he was going through something, something terrible.
Were his parents responsible for it?
I accelerated my pace to reach at Rick’s house as soon as possible. It was strange that Rick was nowhere to be seen.
Holding my raspy breath, I scanned the surrounding around me. There was a pin drop silence. I could only hear falling of rain drops on the leaves and then on the wet land.
Rubbing my shivering arms, I continued walking till I found Rick’s house.
The door of Rick’s house was still closed. There was emptiness around the place. It was still dusty, carrying a thick layer of negativity.
Shall I go inside? I asked my mind just for consideration. Nothing seemed positive to me. There was fear dancing in pit of my stomach, though my concern for Rick was huge. Anyhow I’d to find out my friend – yes, he was my friend. He had created a strong place in my heart within just one day. It was strange to my mind, but not for my heart.
Bringing lot of strength in my body, I curled my fingers on the cold metal of the gate. As I gazed down, I caught one snail moving against the metal. I ignored it and put my steps forward.
My feet stuck in the thickish mud of the ground. With little struggle, I managed to move forward, holding my umbrella close to my body.
My heart was thumping against my chest. As I was not comfortable in walking alone in the new place, it was getting hard for me to control my heartbeats. The place was not only new but also scary.
It was strange that the cute boy like Rick was living in such place.
As I finally reached in front of the door of house, struggling with sodden spiderwebs, my eyes froze on the window. To my surprise, it was half-open, but no light was coming out from inside the house. Only the light of street lamps was reflecting on the glass of the window, but it was muzzy reflection. The glass was thickly covered in mud.
I was about to peek inside the house, when...
“Hey, who are you?”
My body jumped in terror. My heartbeats skipped the normal breath and immediately my body felt a warmth of fear. The voice who had interrupted my innocent intrusion had pulled my soul out of my body.
I swivelled, swivelled with bulged out eyes.
Her eyes softened with recognition as she saw me.
“What_What are you doing here?” She walked forward. “Your name is Abigail, right?”
I just nodded.
