Chapter 16

March 2nd

Ever since Adam had a few weeks to think about what he had done, he couldn't stop thinking about it. It was all playing around in his mind and he kept thinking of how weird it was to come home from hospital. He was in so much trouble and yet he wanted to be home.

Adam seriously couldn't stop thinking of it.

Adam was very happy that he would be finally coming home because he was sick of being in hospital. He wished that Tasha would have been with him when his mother and father would be taking him home, but he knew that wasn't possible.

But there was one problem about going home.

Adam's parents had grounded him for what seemed like the rest of the year and he was not looking forward to spending all the time at home, not being able to do anything. It would be worse if his brothers were still not talking to him but it seemed that they were. Mr and Mrs Little had told their son that his brothers were extremely worried about him when they found out that he was in hospital. There was a glimmer of hope, Adam decided.

"Ready to go?" asked Mrs Little.

"Yes, but, before we go," replied Adam, "how long am I being grounded for?"

"We haven't decided that yet, but, rest assured, it will be more than a month," said Mr Little, crossing his arms over his chest.

Adam just sighed and then he followed his parents out of the hospital.

...

Adam was glad to finally be home and he was glad to be in his own bed. His mother and father had insisted that he go straight to bed when he got home because he was still recovering. Adam wanted to argue, saying that he was fine, but he didn't want to make things worse so, for once, he did as he was told.

Adam had decided that he had learnt his lesson when he reached his room. He then opened the door and stood in the spot where he fell for a little while. He was so mad at himself for being so stupid.

"What are you doing?" asked Stan as he stood at Adam's door.

Adam turned around to look at his little brother, "nothing," replied Adam, "just getting into bed."

"It didn't look like that to me."

"I was just resting. I have only just got out of hospital, remember?"

Adam really didn't like having to explain himself to his little brother. He didn't have to and he didn't want to.

"Why did you have such a bad fall?" asked Stan.

"I told you," replied Adam, he hadn't told his brothers the full story, "I tripped over and hit my head on the bedside table."

"Why did you trip?"

Okay, so, this interrogation was infuriating. But Adam kept his cool.

"I don't know," said Adam, "there was something on my carpet."

"Like what?" replied Stan.

But now Adam was starting to get really annoyed.

"I don't know," Adam snapped, "I can't remember. That's what concussions do, Stan."

Stan took that as a hint that his older brother wanted some peace and quiet so he turned to leave. But he didn't make it very far, "before I go," he said, turning to face Adam, "I collected your work from school. It is on the kitchen bench."
