CHAPTER 1

Mackenzie couldn't stop weeping. She didn't want to move. Derek, her boyfriend, engulfed her in a hug.

"It's okay. We'll still talk every night. I'll come and visit you when I can"

"You're going to find some other girl. You're going to fall in love with her and completely forget about me" She sobbed. Derek put his hands on her shoulders. She looked up at him and he smiled.

"I could never replace you. You're perfect" Mackenzie smiled as her dad honked the horn, signaling it was time to leave. Mackenzie cried even harder and grabbed onto Derek.

"I love you" She cried before pulling away. He smiled at her, before reaching down and planting a kiss on her lips.

"I love you so much" He replied. Mackenzie's dad honked the horn again and Mackenzie pulled on Derek's collar, savoring the one last kiss they would ever have with each other. Her parents started getting irritated so her mom finally got out of the car and yelled to her

"Ready to go?" Mackenzie's mom asked. Mackenzie eyed her mother before returning to Derek.

"I have to go" He grabbed onto her hand and squeezed it tightly.

"Stay safe. And call me when you get there" Mackenzie nodded, letting a few more tears fall from her eyes.

"Mackenzie" Her mother sneered, trying to hurry her up. She just nodded and slowly walked away from Derek. Taking in his appearance.

"Goodbye Derek" Mackenzie's mother smiled as she put her hand on Mackenzie's back, pushing her towards the car. Mackenzie jumped into the back row of the car and looked in the back

windshield. Derek was standing there, she could see the sorrow behind his eyes.

Mackenzie's dad started the car and she put her hand up against the glass as they drove off and turned the corner. She thought back to six months ago, when she was first told about the move. Mackenzie remembered the heartbreak she felt when she found out she had to leave Derek behind. Her heart hurt more now than it did back then.

"Took you long enough" Mackenzie's dad joked taking her away from her thoughts. She just turned around in her seat and buckled in. Mackenzie and her family had about a day drive, but she knew her parents would want to stop at every country they arrived in to look around and eat.

It was about three hours later when Mackenzie asked:

"Why are we moving anyways?" Her dad sighed.

"I've told you a hundred times honey. I got offered an amazing job. The person at the company even offered to pay the mortgage on our house for a year! They wanted me very badly. The pay was great, and the new house? Huge!" Mackenzies dad went on and on about how great of an opportunity it was.

"I doubt he'll be stopping his rant anytime soon" Kellie, Mackenzie's little sister, whispered. Mackenzie quietly chuckled.

"Dads putting me to sleep" She yawned. Kellie only laughed before Mackenzie laid back in the seat and dozed off.

Mackenzie dreamt about staying in Michigan and how better her life would be if they stayed. She thought about her future. Mackenzie had planned to go to Michigan State University, to marry Derek and become a teacher. What would happen to her perfect future now?

Mackenzie was worried. She knew that some other girl would come along and steal Derek's heart. After all Derek was an extremely handsome guy. With his short, brown scruffy hair with hints on blonde in it. And his amazing light green eyes. And his body? Perfect. Muscular, he was tall and perfect.

She felt herself waking up.

"Hey dad? Where are we" When she didn't get a reply Mackenzie opened her eyes to find an empty car. Did they go in somewhere and eat without her? Mackenzie looked at the window and instead of seeing a parking lot, she saw a field. A wheat field. Mackenzie sat up and saw that all the doors were open. As she leaned closer to the seats, she noticed there was blood all over the seat where her little sister was sitting and blood all over the front of the windshield.

"Dad?! Mom?! Kellie?!" she screamed jumping out of the car. Tears starting to stream out of her eyes as she frantically looked around. She saw a trail of blood on the floor going off further into the field.

"Dad! Mom! Kellie! You guys! This-this isn't funny!" But when no one replying Mackenzie started to shake with fear. What do I do? She questioned herself until she remembered she had her phone in her bag. She rummaged through the car until she found her bag. She pulled it out and the first thing she did was call Derek.

"Hey baby how's the car ride? I miss you already" Mackenzie tried to explain what was happening but it only came out as a big crying mummer. "Baby calm down, what's wrong!"

"I-I fell asleep. A-An-and when I woke up and no one was there. Were in some wheat field and there's blood all over the car. Kellie and my parents are gone!! I don't know what to do"

"Oh god.... Baby just stay calm. Did you get out of the car?"

"Mhm"

"Get back in the car, lock all the doors and call the police" Mackenzie was quiet for a minute "Are you there?"

"There's a trail of blood, I think I'm going to follow it"

"No! Baby that could be bad don't. Whoever did that could be out there. Just please get in the car" There was a rustling in the field and Mackenzie screamed. Tears started pouring out of her eyes. "Mackenzie!" Derek screamed into the phone.

"Derek" Mackenzie cried out of fear, all she wanted was to be home in his arms. Then her phone beeped and shut off. "No no no!" Mackenzie screamed at her dead phone throwing it back in the car. She was so tempted to follow the trail.

She thought hiding in the car would be useless with her phone dead. No one would find her. So she followed the trail slowly making sure to memorize her way so she could get back to the car.

After ten minutes of walking Mackenzie came upon an end to the trail. She looked around until she saw a body lying on its stomach. Mackenzie froze in place, knowing who it was that lay in front of her.

"Daddy?"
